Akiro

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Breed: Akita Inu Gender: male-unneutered Born: 01.05.2020 Color: white with light brown Weight: ca. 31 kg Size: ca. 70 cm In the animal shelter since: 24.10.2021 - currently on a foster home Akiro is like finding a needle in a haystack. He requires very dog-experienced and confident people without children or other pets who can establish clear rules and boundaries for the male dog and are willing to enforce them. Akiro knows exactly how to exploit the weaknesses of humans and is looking for a loophole in the system. If he doesn't receive consistent handling, he can become a real danger to people and other animals. He seeks conflict and notices when it is avoided, reacting to human weaknesses. He quickly notices physical or psychological limitations and will take advantage of a favorable moment. Akiro should always be kept in mind and read very carefully. Everything must fit with him. The people must meet certain criteria and get to know the handling over a period of time. On his foster home, he occasionally shows his playful side. Akiro can be well-behaved and regularly attends seminars and dog training classes. He generally accepts most rules and being handled, having his muzzle put on, or meeting other dogs is not a reason for him to completely lose his cool. He can be very well-behaved and friendly, but still must be enjoyed with caution. The text does not read particularly friendly, but one must take Akiro very seriously. Akiro must wear a muzzle day and night. Only when his people are able to correctly assess Akiro, predict potentially dangerous situations, and respond appropriately, can the muzzle be removed. Akiro needs consistent people who are not bothered by his aggression and know how to handle it. If you would like to meet Akiro, please contact us at the animal shelter under 06181 - 4511 6. We are happy to make contact with the foster home. There, Akiro can be visited at any time by arrangement.

About Akiro

What life with Akiro looks like

Akiro is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Hanau in Hanau.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Akiro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Akiro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Hanau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Akiro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Akiro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Hanau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Akiro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Akiro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Hanau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Akiro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
