Apollo

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 4 years

Apollo is a neutered male Staff-Mix born on February 1, 2022, who came to us in March 2024 after a securement due to a biting incident. Initially, Apollo shows great insecurity and mistrust towards strangers. This is particularly evident in the yard, where he expresses himself through intense barking, showing teeth, and advancing. Apollo has a pronounced food aggression, so special caution is required when handling food. With other dogs, he is generally friendly but has a very stormy nature: he wants to play with every dog he meets, which is not appreciated by all fellow animals. To his trusted people, Apollo builds a close bond. Once trust is established, he becomes very clingy, actively seeking closeness and often demanding cuddles. On the leash, Apollo is not yet well-controlled and may pull strongly at times. He accepts a muzzle without issue, as he is accustomed to it due to his classification. For Apollo, we are looking for dog-experienced individuals (proof of knowledge required) who already have experience with demanding or difficult dogs. His future owners should be prepared to invest a lot of time, patience, and understanding to get to know Apollo, give him security, and build his trust sustainably. Interested parties are requested to make an appointment under:.

About Apollo

What life with Apollo looks like

Apollo is a adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken in Saarbrücken.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
