Callou

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Callou found a friendly animal rescuer somewhere in Nirgendwo. She wandered helplessly on the street, desperately seeking connection. Gratefully, she jumped into the car immediately and behaved impeccably from the start. Physically, she was initially quite energetic but recovered quickly. It was clear how hard and deprived her previous life had been. Callou is a bit larger and stronger than a purebred greyhound. However, she is characteristically greyhound-like. She bonds closely with her human, wants to please, and do everything right. She is easy to handle, learns quickly, and can be walked on a leash in an open field. Callou is very social with fellow animals and lives here problem-free with various dogs of different sizes and ages. She also approaches people with friendliness and openness, seeking their company and delighting in cuddles. Typical of the breed, Callou sometimes wants the chance to run properly, but she is usually calm and pleasant indoors. Since mid-May 2026, Callou has been with her foster family at the Bodensee and is learning to live in Germany. She lives there with other dogs and a child in kindergarten age and gets along well with everyone, being simply super nice. She is house-trained, calm indoors, enjoys car rides, and goes everywhere her foster family takes her, like to the beach for a swim and chill, picking up the child from kindergarten, and walking in the woods, etc. Now, she just needs her own home, maybe with you? Then feel free to contact us! Info: Birthdate September 2020, Height 70 cm, Weight 33 kg, Female, Location 88693 Deggenhausertal, Microchipped, Vaccinated, Dewormed, Spayed. Info:Geburtsdatum September 2020Größe 70 cm. Gewicht 33 kg. About Callou

What life with Callou looks like

Callou is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Markdorf in Markdorf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Callou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Callou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Markdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Callou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Callou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Markdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Callou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Callou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Markdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Callou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
