Copito

Male · Senior · 11 years

Wasserhund Copito – wants to be loved again. The senior Copito, named Copo, originally came from Spain, where he was discharged due to his age and was disposed of at an animal shelter. How can one do that to a once faithful companion? Thankfully, he was soon noticed and allowed to travel abroad. He is now temporarily living in a foster home and is looking forward to life there. Copito lives now in a larger pack with predominantly smaller dogs. The senior particularly loves the ladies in the pack, while male dogs are chosen based on their liking. At home, he still often separates himself from the pack for now and could very well live as a single dog in the future. People are more important to him than other dogs, and he follows his foster mother in the garden at every step. Copito has been house-trained from the start, showing when he needs to go out. Being alone in the pack is no problem for him. When you come home, he is overjoyed. Copito is not overly friendly on the leash. He goes very well with it. Even riding in the car is no problem for him. At home, he now occasionally comes into the living room to check what is going on and prefers to be stroked there for hours. Then he willingly goes back to his dog bed and lies down to rest. Currently, he prefers to spend the nights in the winter garden. He does not yet know any commands, his German language course is just beginning. He does not like being photographed, Copito is probably a bit vain and thinks that his recently completely shorn fur is not yet as beautiful as it was in Spain. When his ringlet curls have grown back, he will be a beautiful water dog with a typically lovable senior face. Copito is a wonderful companion for people who want to give their heart to a senior dog. For Copito, a quiet home would be desirable where he can receive a lot of affection again. His new people can be older as well, because like and like soon come together.

About Copito

What life with Copito looks like

Copito is a senior dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Copito, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Copito?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Copito on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Copito if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Copito already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Copito isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Copito and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
