Breed: Labrador Born: 18.10.2019 Gender: male - neutered Color: blond Weight: 41.5 kg Height: ca. 55 cm In the animal shelter since: 17.12.2022 - currently on a training placement Video: Fitness with Eddie Update December 2024 Eddie searches for a home – An update on his progress Eddie has made progress in the last two months since being placed on a professional training placement to work intensively on his issues. At first, Eddie showed significant status problems at our animal shelter, but through targeted training, initial successes have already been shown. Eddie's leash manners have improved significantly – he now walks calmly on the leash, even with distractions. These improvements have also enhanced his approachability in the encounter training. While he still needs support in stressful situations, he is becoming increasingly easier to handle. Particularly pleasing is the change in his work attitude towards his trainers. Eddie is now more clearly motivated, enters training sessions with greater joy, recognizes the benefits of working with people, and is no longer in the "through-the-motions" mode. This positively impacts his approachability in more challenging situations. Through a positive approach, he now allows more handling measures, such as ear cleaning. In a fixed training framework, he shows initial progress in interacting with strangers – touches and eye contact, which previously were difficult for him, are now mastered better. Also, in resource defense, Eddie has made noticeable progress. Through consistent resource management, where the trainers take control and he works on his main food, he is much more relaxed and tolerant in dealing with people. Eddie can be visited on the training placement by arrangement. Space and various resources are important to him. As a result, there have been two biting incidents that occurred in a household situation. Eddie searches for a home with a person who understands what status-motivated aggression means and has a desire for conflict. For this, he needs a dog who is open to a clarified relationship structure, cooperation, and joint activities when they occur within a clear framework. He can show very appropriate behavior when required, such as quickly adapting to leash training exercises, and has no problems with dog encounters outdoors. In his new home, no other dogs or children should live. Eddies new people should be prepared to secure him with a muzzle when needed. This animal is not suitable for homes with children.

About Eddie

What life with Eddie looks like

Eddie is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Hanau in Hanau.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eddie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eddie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Hanau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eddie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eddie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Hanau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eddie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eddie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Hanau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eddie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
