Fortunato

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

If you follow us on Instagram and read our travel journals, you might remember the tiny bottle baby we wrote about in January. The little guy was the only baby to survive the Caesarean birth of his mother. Since he wasn't born naturally, his mother wouldn't take him. So, our partner Paola was asked by the clinic to take him in. Of course, she didn't refuse, even though she knew what was coming: feeding, massaging his belly, cleaning—every two hours, around the clock... There are only a few people who would take on such a task. When we met the little one at the beginning of January 2026, he was still so tiny and helpless. And whether he would make it was also written in the stars. So, we could only hope that he would continue to develop well. We were overjoyed with every new piece of news, every small progress. Especially when the time came when Paola was confident that Fortunato—as the little treasure was now called—had made it. Now, Fortunato has grown into a happy, lively, and spirited puppy. He gets along well with his doggy friends, loves to snuggle with Tomcat Gavin, and also gets along well with the other cats that live in the house. To complete his happiness, Fortunato now only needs his own family. For in the rescue, such individual affection can't be provided to every animal, given the number of dogs and cats to care for and the sick animals to nurse. There are simply too many to give the individual attention that would be ideal. Do you want to give this lovable treasure the chance at his dream home with a close family connection? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only joy but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. We provide support nationwide.

About Fortunato

What life with Fortunato looks like

Fortunato is a very small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fortunato, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fortunato?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fortunato on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fortunato if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fortunato already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fortunato isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fortunato and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
