Happy

Mixed Breed · Female

Happy is a small, white female dog. She is approximately 2.5 years old, microchipped, spayed, vaccinated, flea-free and dewormed, and has an EU passport. This little dog is a very cautious girl who still needs to learn to behave confidently in a quiet home. As soon as one of our caregivers enters the outdoor area, she hides in the farthest corner of her hut. Initially, we had to feed her inside the doghouse. Now we can also place the food outside. She currently lives with two small, older, calm companions: a male and a female. Everything is going great. She allows herself to be held in hands, but initially remains quite stiff. After she realizes that nothing bad is happening to her, she starts to relax and enjoy the caresses. We are looking for a home for her, ideally without small children and a lively lifestyle. With this nice little girl, it's just a matter of time until she warms up to her new owners and becomes a full-fledged family member. Since our dogs are kept in large outdoor enclosures, we cannot confirm whether Happy is compatible with cats. If you have fallen in love with Happy, please contact our animal shelter. About Happy

What life with Happy looks like

Happy is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Madonas Dzīvnieku Patversme in Madona.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

Frequently asked

Adopting Happy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Happy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Madonas Dzīvnieku Patversme handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Happy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Happy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Madonas Dzīvnieku Patversme will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Happy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Happy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Madonas Dzīvnieku Patversme early rather than rehoming privately; they know Happy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
