Jana

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Our partners in Stintino are often the saviors in need - whether it's animals losing their homes or cats and dogs who were abandoned or had an accident. This is also the case for this adorable female German Shepherd. The female dog had a car accident and was injured. She was also taken to a clinic, but unfortunately, it's often the case that when no responsible owner can be found, only the bare minimum - or nothing at all - is done, and the animal is sent to one of the terrible kennels. Our partners were able to save the female German Shepherd from this fate. However, the help for her broken front leg came too late; the break had already grown together in a twisted manner. During our team project tour in mid-April 2026, we met Jana, how the female dog is now named. And her story deeply moved us. She is so friendly and people-oriented that we want to give her the chance to find a loving home where she will be loved and spoiled for a few more good years. Whether anything can still be improved operatively at her crippled front leg, we will only find out when Jana is introduced to a specialist in Germany. But even if nothing more can be repaired: Jana is full of joy for life, and in a loving home environment, she will certainly be very happy. Jana is already a senior, so we don't want to waste any precious time and want to bring her to Germany as quickly as possible so that she can find her dream home here. Does Jana touch your heart? Would you like to give her love, care, and security? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption brings not only great joy but also a lot of work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide support.

About Jana

What life with Jana looks like

Jana is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
