KAI

Mixed Breed · Male

We cannot bear to think what this beautiful boy has endured to make him so anxious around people. Kai is a very handsome boy. An experienced Malinois owner will know what joy he will bring once he knows all people are not horrible. We have seen a huge improvement in Kai, thankfully he enjoys exercise in the park and he takes a treat from your hand. Small steps maybe, but huge for the volunteers. A wonderful lady specialising in anxiety behaviour issues is working with him so we are very confident he will be enjoying his walks with the rest of the dogs soon enough. Shelter life is not for this incredibly intelligent working breed, please see what we see and give him his chance to feel loved for the first time. Approx weight 07/05/25: 25kgs Update 25/05/25 Volunteer walker Linda says that Kai is a very special dog. When he arrived he was extremely fearful of everyone. Irina an experienced behaviourist worked closely with Kai and slowly gained his trust. This proved so critical as it allowed other volunteers to follow Irina’s instruction and walk Kai. We can only guess what this poor boy went through previously as he avoided any contact or affection. We were making progress when he went downhill quickly with Leishmania. To help him recover Kai desperately needs better surroundings than a noisy shelter. Yes we love him dearly and on volunteer days we make sure he has a walk but to help his body recover he needs a foster home as soon as possible. Volunteer Irina says Kai is not aggressive, anxious towards people, does not trust. Communication with Kai should be as calm and unobtrusive as possible, do not use sudden movements. Kai behaves calmly on a walk, does not pull the leash, if he starts to get nervous, you need to stop and give the dog a chance to calm down. Kai can become an excellent companion, calm and balanced. Kai must be given the opportunity to communicate with dogs, people and take him for a walk to different places. The main thing is to do everything slowly. He loves other dogs especially Pepe. About KAI

What life with KAI looks like

KAI is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Murcia) in Lips Rescue.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting KAI, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about KAI?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Murcia) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw KAI on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt KAI if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Murcia) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is KAI already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if KAI isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Murcia) early rather than rehoming privately; they know KAI and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
