Leo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 3 years

Right into the animal shelter and hopefully soon out of the animal shelter again! Leo was surrendered to our Spanish partner shelter. He was no longer wanted ☹. The young Leo is somewhat unsettled, as he doesn't yet know what will happen next. He probably hoped for a good life. We can't say much about Leo right now. However, in the shelter, he shows himself to be a friendly dog soul towards the staff. According to his previous owner, Leo is compatible with other dogs. This has not yet been verified by the shelter. For Leo, it should move forward as soon as possible. Instead of a kennel, a caring basket should be waiting for this lovely dog. Therefore, we are looking for a loving home for Leo. This home should allow him to arrive there calmly and relaxed. Leo will need some time to get used to a new environment. In this process, he will rely on the positive support and companionship of his new family. Paws for paws towards dog happiness. Leo is a still young dog who wants people by his side who will enjoy shared adventures. He wants to be physically and mentally engaged so that at the end of the day he can fall asleep contentedly in his basket. If you are ready to welcome the small surprise named Leo and give this lovable pup a beautiful future, then we look forward to your inquiry. Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be a challenge. The dogs bring along a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to adjust to their new life. If you have a serious interest in adopting Leo, please contact the responsible mediator of SALVA Dog Help. We would also be very happy about the provision of a foster home. The contact details are below. Here you go to Leo's video.

About Leo

What life with Leo looks like

Leo is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
