Loki

Male · Young · 3 years

Loki is a young, energetic dog full of vitality and joy. He is just at the beginning of his journey and has yet to learn many things – but he has a friendly, open, and absolutely lovable character. Once he settles in, he shows his true colors quickly: maintaining calm and rest still prove very challenging for him. Loki is often stormy, demanding, and full of initiative – he just wants to please and belong. Adventures, new impressions, and extensive walks are exactly his thing. He loves being on the go, discovering the world, and being active with his people. Closeness and attention are particularly important to him. If he doesn’t receive this, he can also become a bit feisty and demand it in his own, still energetic way. Currently, Loki’s behavior is not suitable for a home with children. Additionally, he is not a dog for beginners – he needs people with dog experience, clear leadership, and the willingness to work consistently with him. A lot of training is still necessary, especially in the areas of calmness, impulse control, and daily structure. But with patience, time, and the right guidance, Loki has great potential: he can develop, learn, and grow into a really great companion. For Loki, we are looking for people who are eager to train, challenge, and support him while also giving him security and clear boundaries. People with endurance, understanding, and the willingness to grow together with him. Who gives this young wild thing the chance to find his place in life? Please write us an email with your phone number or call us.

DE·Show original

About Loki

What life with Loki looks like

Loki is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Tierheim Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Young dog in adolescent phase, needs consistent training and boundaries

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Loki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Loki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Düsseldorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Loki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Loki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Düsseldorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Loki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Loki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Düsseldorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Loki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
