Lou

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Little Lou is looking for her forever home The charming Lou has only recently been at our Bulgarian shelter. But from June onwards, she would rather trade this place for a cozy basket with kind people. A foster home would also be a wonderful chance for the little mouse. Lou is curious, playful and open. She meets people friendly and gets along well with other dogs. She especially enjoys playing with the other puppies and savors every happy moment. However, Lou would much rather share her puppy life with people who love her, grow with her and have many beautiful adventures together. She wants to belong, feel closeness and be very close to her humans. Of course, Lou still needs to learn the basics of being a dog. Housebreaking, being alone, car travel and everything that belongs to a harmonious coexistence are new to her. With humor, patience, structure and positive reinforcement, she will surely quickly understand what is expected of her and develop into a great companion. Anyone who is ready to lovingly accompany a puppy as it grows and does not give up even when there are small setbacks is welcome to contact the responsible adoption officer. Lou is ready for her new life from June onwards. Who will give her this chance? Adopting an animal shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be a challenge. The dogs bring along a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to adjust to their new life. If you are seriously interested in adopting Lou, please contact the responsible adoption officer of SALVA Dog Help. We would also be very happy about the provision of a foster home.

About Lou

What life with Lou looks like

Lou is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
