Marla

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

female dog MARLA, born around August 2025, shoulder height around 49 cm and weighing around 12-14 kg (as of the end of April), dog bed available immediately. Marla and Lena are two young sisters who have unfortunately had little chance to experience life so far. Now, they wish for people who can show them how wonderful a real home can be. The two could not be more different: Marla already shows a rather open, friendly, and people-oriented demeanor. She actively seeks contact, enjoys attention, and warms up quickly. With her soft fur and loving nature, she is a small cuddly mouse who curiously explores life and likes to be outdoors, but of course, she can still be startled in many moments. Lena, on the other hand, is much more reserved and insecure. New situations and strangers still scare her quickly, and she only enjoys cuddles (if she can be touched at all) but makes small progress every day. She strongly follows her sister and unfortunately often goes unnoticed in everyday life. Lena therefore needs especially patient and understanding people who can give her the time to build trust at her own pace. Both female dogs are still at the very beginning of their lives and need to learn the complete dog ABC. They have hardly experienced anything outside of the shelter routine. Things like leash training, car rides, different environmental stimuli, everyday noises, or new situations are still completely unfamiliar to them and can initially highlight insecurities. Therefore, Marla and Lena each need people who are ready to lead them into life as a family dog with love and small steps. With patience, calmness, and understanding, both will learn to gain security and trust. Marla and Lena each seek a home in the countryside. They wish for people who can give them the chance to finally settle in and learn about the world. We do not place in very urban settings or in families with young children. Please only submit an adoption request if the adoption is possible at the time mentioned in the text and you have already discussed the acceptance of a new family member with your family (and any other involved persons like employers, landlords, or temporary caregivers). The descriptions are based on their behavior in this familiar environment. Especially puppies and young dogs are still in the development of their character. For a successful adjustment to a new home, they need time, patience, and loving guidance to get used to the new environment and the various stimuli and to grow into secure dogs.

About Marla

What life with Marla looks like

Marla is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Marla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Marla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Marla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Marla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Marla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Marla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Marla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
