Melenios

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 1 year

The blind Melenios was discovered in a deserted building in Athens. When our animal welfare workers called out to him, he immediately responded and approached them in a friendly manner. It quickly became clear that he most likely had a home at some point, as his behavior towards humans was unusually open and trusting. Given that the location where he was found was close to a busy main road, the danger to him was significant. Our animal rescuer Sonia therefore decided to bring him to safety. Today, Melenios lives in a foster home and shows himself to be an especially loving and social tomcat. He is very cuddly and friendly with people and gets along excellently with other cats. However, he seems afraid of dogs. Due to his gentle and balanced nature, Melenios can also be well-suited for families with children. We wish for him a loving home that is suitable for apartment living. Windows and any balconies should be securely cat-proofed. Adoption is possible for a cost of 180 Euros (including transport box). Melenios has no eyes and is blind. Look-animal welfare association Deutschland e.V.

About Melenios

What life with Melenios looks like

Melenios is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Look-Tierschutzverein Deutschland e.V. in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Melenios, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Melenios?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Look-Tierschutzverein Deutschland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Melenios on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Melenios if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Look-Tierschutzverein Deutschland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Melenios already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Melenios isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Look-Tierschutzverein Deutschland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Melenios and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
