Meri

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Meri will turn eight this autumn and came to the animal shelter two months ago. She didn’t come alone – she came with her dog family. With her came her brother Chuk, her sister Poli, and their father, an 11-year-old dog who fortunately already found a home. They came to the animal shelter after the death of their owner – the only person and the only life they had ever known. Meri spent her entire life isolated in a yard, so the world outside was initially completely foreign and very overwhelming for her. Unlike her brother, Meri is shy. She is very cautious and reserved and needs more time to relax and feel safe in new situations. Beneath her shyness, however, lies a very gentle and loving soul that is slowly beginning to trust people. By now, she has learned to walk on a leash and now walks well with it. Still, she is learning to understand and accept the everyday life and all the new experiences at her own pace. New people, sounds, traffic, and unknown situations are things she learns to understand and accept at her own pace. It is important to emphasize that Meri shows no aggression. If she feels uncomfortable or scared, she simply withdraws and seeks safety without showing any negative reaction. She is a sensitive, calm, and friendly soul that simply needs time, patience, and a feeling of security. We firmly believe that Meri will slowly blossom in a quiet and loving home with people who give her understanding and gentleness. She does not ask for much – only the chance to finally feel safe and loved. Who would like to give the beautiful Meri a new home?. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

DE·Show original

About Meri

What life with Meri looks like

Meri is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. in Stuttgart.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Meri, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Meri?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Meri on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Meri if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Meri already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Meri isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellnasen Stuttgart e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Meri and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
