Michi

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Michi, red domestic shorthair (DSH) born in 2023, tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia, neutered, dewormed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Available for visits in 82008 Unterhaching. Housing: suitable for apartment living (if a balcony is present, it must be securely netted to be cat-proof) or with outdoor access in a quiet, low-traffic area; also suitable as a barn cat, etc., provided good care is guaranteed. Affectionate but moody and challenging in temperament. Prefers to be the only cat. He is familiar with other cats but can be somewhat rough with fellow animals; any existing cats should be confident and assertive. Contact: Regina Ledersberger Email: Michi – an impetuous, moody indoor tomcat with character, born in 2023, seeking an understanding home. Michi, red tabby tomcat born in 2023, is fundamentally very trusting and slightly chubby, yet possesses a moody and difficult personality. He has been waiting for a home since September 2024. He enjoys being stroked on his back but absolutely not on his head or neck—he immediately rejects any attempt to touch those areas. He has a somewhat unruly demeanor and can sometimes appear insecure. Otherwise, Michi is lively and, for his age, quite active—chasing strings, fabric mice, and other toys or dashing through crinkle tunnels. He also enjoys interactive play with a fishing-pole toy, though he sometimes plays rather roughly or tears apart his toys enthusiastically. As long as you don’t excessively try to pet him, he’s manageable in daily life, but he clearly sets boundaries when it comes to being touched around his head, neck, or nape. However, he is not an aggressive tomcat! Still, you shouldn’t hold your hand out to him (for too long), as he might suddenly nip hard or swipe if his mood shifts. (It’s unknown what he experienced in his past; he was likely poorly socialized as a young tomcat. He spent his first years living alone with an elderly lady until she could no longer keep him due to health reasons.) We are looking for an experienced cat owner without children, ideally someone happy to take him as a single “prince,” who welcomes an unbalanced “problem cat”—either in an apartment setting (any existing balcony must absolutely be secured with cat-proof netting) where he’ll receive adequate mental and physical stimulation, or with outdoor access in a quiet, low-traffic location where he can keep himself occupied outside. Perhaps he’ll get another chance with someone who doesn’t mind that he isn’t a cuddly lap cat and who accepts him just as he is. If he builds trust with his person, it’s possible—though not guaranteed—that he may become more approachable over time. A stable yard, riding stable, or similar setup with a warm shelter and secure enclosure for acclimatization, where he can work as a mouser, would also be welcome, provided consistent care (including veterinary treatment if ever needed) is assured. Michi has lived with other cats before, but even then, he can occasionally be rough and dominant. This animal has a history of biting.

About Michi

What life with Michi looks like

Michi is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Starnberg in Starnberg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Michi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Michi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Starnberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Michi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Michi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Starnberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Michi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Michi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Starnberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Michi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
