Opal

Yorkshire Terrier · Female · Adult · 4 years

08-06-26 Opal has come to us from a breeder and is now searching for a loving forever home where she can finally discover what it means to be a cherished companion. This tiny, dinky little girl is feeling a little worried and overwhelmed at the moment, but she is trying ever so hard to be brave. When you first meet her, Opal can be quite timid and unsure, but she enjoys gentle fusses and, once she gets to know you, her sweet personality starts to shine through. Before long, she becomes your best friend and is more than happy to sit on your lap and have a cuddle. Opal is looking for a calm and quiet home with adopters who have plenty of time to devote to her and who will allow her to settle in at her own pace. She will need patience, understanding and lots of TLC as she learns that the world is not such a scary place. We would consider homing her with dog savvy older teenagers. She takes great comfort from the company of other dogs and relies on them for confidence, so she will need another kind and confident resident dog in her new home. Having a canine friend by her side will help her navigate new experiences and settle into family life much more easily. Opal has never lived in a home before, so her adopters will need to be kind and patient as she learns all about home life and house training. She will also need to learn how to walk on a lead and harness, starting slowly and building her confidence as she goes. Opal is a truly lovely little girl who just needs someone to believe in her. With time, patience and plenty of love, we think she is going to adore being someone's special friend. Most of all, she would love a lap of her very own to snuggle up on and call home. She has some hormonal alopecia, which should grow back in time once she has been spayed. Opal has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Opal

What life with Opal looks like

Opal is a very small adult yorkshire terrier dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Opal, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Opal?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Opal on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Opal if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Opal already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Opal isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Opal and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
