PANDORA

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

A PANDORA lived many years on the street. Some people gave her food, but in reality, no one truly cared for her. She was eventually brought to the shelter when she was very sick. She was skin and bones and had an infection in one eye, she couldn't even open her left eye. Dogs are never well on the street, they belong to everyone but when they need help, they end up belonging to no one. We did blood tests, several veterinary consultations, including with an ophthalmologist, and an ultrasound. The liver values were very high, which is not surprising after so many years surviving on the street and eating garbage. For months, she was on a liver diet with supplements until we managed to stabilize her and help her gain weight. Regarding the eye, she received antibiotic eye drops and it worked, her left eye is now as good as the right one. She also had two rotten teeth extracted that were causing an abscess in her mouth and making it difficult for her to eat. Months later, PANDORA is much better. She is a healthy senior dog, only with the normal problems of her age. PANDORA is absolutely amazing. She is one of the sweetest and most gentle dogs you can imagine. She loves people, always comes to ask for affection and responds very well when called by her name. She gets along well with all the dogs. For a dog who lived so many years on the street, we were very surprised by how well she walks on a leash. She also behaves very well in the car and feels comfortable in enclosed spaces, like our reception room, she doesn't fear going through doors. There's no doubt, before being abandoned, she had a home. PANDORA is old and unfortunately will not live many more years. We would love for her to spend these remaining years in a loving home. She deserves it. PANDORA will be delivered vaccinated, dewormed, spayed, and with a microchip.

PT·Show original

A Pandora é absolutamente incrível. Ela merece. A Pandora será entregue vacinada, desparasitada, esterilizada e com microchip.

About PANDORA

What life with PANDORA looks like

PANDORA is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at O Cantinho da Milu in Lisbon.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Senior dog with history of liver issues and dental problems, now resolved. Regular vet checkups recommended for age-related monitoring.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting PANDORA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about PANDORA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O Cantinho da Milu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw PANDORA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt PANDORA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O Cantinho da Milu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is PANDORA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if PANDORA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O Cantinho da Milu early rather than rehoming privately; they know PANDORA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
