Petrie RESERVED ID No.: 1046078 Breed: German Shepherd-Mix Age: approx. 02.2025 Gender: male Shoulder height: approx. 56 cm Neutered: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Petrie – sensitive German Shepherd-Mix seeks active home Petrie (*19.02.2025, approx. 56 cm shoulder height) was found on the street together with his sister Cera—without a microchip but in good condition, suggesting they hadn’t been on their own for long. He likely comes from an unplanned litter of an unneutered dog. Initially, the puppies may have been welcome, but as they grew larger, they were apparently abandoned. Petrie is a gentle, black German Shepherd-Mix with a soft temperament. At the animal shelter, he lives alongside several Podencos, including an adult male dog who takes the lead within the group. Petrie shows himself to be very social and friendly with other dogs. He has also behaved excellently during group walks involving many dogs, people, and children—for example, along Marbella’s promenade. Petrie is very open and cuddly toward people. Occasionally, he still jumps up excitedly, but this is typical for young dogs in the animal shelter and will quickly disappear with a bit of training. Especially impressive is his excellent recall: Petrie reliably responds to his name and comes immediately when called—even while playing with other dogs. He is a highly trainable, intelligent dog who will greatly enjoy learning new things together with his humans. Dog sports, trick training, agility, or other forms of training would be ideal for channeling his energy and sharp mind in a meaningful way. Despite his young age and limited exercise at the animal shelter, Petrie walks nicely on the leash and quickly focuses on his human. He could live either with other friendly dogs or as an only dog, provided regular contact with fellow animals is possible—for instance, through training groups or dog schools. Petrie is a wonderful, sensitive young dog ready for his own home. Petrie is vaccinated, microchipped, and holds an EU pet passport. For travel arrangements, he has been tested for Mediterranean diseases and has been dewormed and treated for fleas. About Petrie

What life with Petrie looks like

Petrie is a young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Petrie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Petrie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Petrie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Petrie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Petrie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Petrie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Petrie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
