Phil

Male · Young · 3 years

Phil is a small, 3 year old, male Patterdale Cross who’s full of personality. He is a lively guy with loads of energy and loves heading off for his walks. Phil’s idea of going for a walk however could mean he escaping from a garden unless it is very secure. He may have been used for hunting in a past life as this seems to interest him greatly. Completely friendly, Phil likes other dogs and other humans and loves a bit of attention. He has not had a whole lot of house training in the past so his new owner has a bit of work to do. He is best suited to an active home, without cats, where he will not be left alone too much. Phil has been neutered, is microchipped 972274200687895, has been vaccinated and has received the usual preventative flea/worm treatments. Phil is currently in the care of Kildare and West Wicklow SPCA The member society or animal centre will give you information on adopting an animal, including the cost, and can help you fill out the right forms.

About Phil

What life with Phil looks like

Phil is a small young adult dog waiting at ISPCA in Dublin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Phil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Phil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ISPCA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Phil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Phil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ISPCA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Phil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Phil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ISPCA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Phil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
