Princesa

Podenco · Female · Adult · 5 years

Triple A Benelux Input April 24, 2026: Princesa was given up by her family where she lived with 3 to 4 small dogs. Two of them were adopted in 2024 and one the family decided to keep. Princesa, a cute little Podenco mix, was the one who remained. Her whole world has completely fallen apart. Everything she knew, she has lost. Nevertheless, she gives volunteers plenty of cuddles and kisses. She looks for a treat in your pocket and loves to snuggle on your lap for warmth and love. She is very people-oriented and opens up quickly. As soon as she notices that she is invited for a petting and cuddling moment, we see that this is a boost for her confidence. In some situations, she is still a bit uncertain, barks a little, and seeks reassurance. Fortunately, it is easy to quickly put her at ease. Princesa still needs to learn to be alone at home for longer periods. She prefers to be by your side. This feeling is further strengthened after being given up. Therefore, it would be ideal for Princesa to live with someone who is often at home or takes her along and can spend a lot of time with her in the beginning. Moreover, she will benefit from working on her confidence. Authoritative figures are a bit stressful for her. She will sit or lie down in the car anyway. Gradually, she will certainly get used to you accompanying her in the car. She sleeps peacefully during the night and in the morning looks forward to playing and running. When you are sitting at the table, she lies in her bed next to you or crawls next to you on the couch. Princesa knows some tricks like sit and lie down and since she is usually up for treats or something else delicious, you can easily teach her things. She is respectful towards other dogs and doesn't worry about them. If another dog is a bit pushy, she is a bit shy and takes time to feel more comfortable. If the other dogs are respectful and nice, she joins the group quickly. Apparently, Princesa suffers from epilepsy, although we have not yet noticed any seizures. For now, we can neither confirm nor deny that Princesa has epilepsy. When she was given up, we were told that she had to take the medicine Phenoleptil. Of course, we will do the necessary tests and check-ups together with her future family to investigate this further. So far, Princesa seems completely healthy, happy, and ready for a new family that embraces her and will never leave her again! Are you longing for lots of love and fun in your life: this great character in a small body has everything!!

Haar wereld is volledig in duigen gevallen.

About Princesa

What life with Princesa looks like

Princesa is a small adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Princesa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Princesa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Princesa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Princesa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Princesa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Princesa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Princesa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
