Ricotta

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Ricotta - young female dog is waiting to finally find her forever home. Ricotta didn't have an easy start in life. The young mixed breed was found on the street in February 2025 at about six months old and taken to the animal shelter. Since then, she has spent most of her life there - an important phase in which many dogs usually explore their environment and gain everyday experiences. In between, Ricotta was able to live with a foster family for a while due to flooding. There she showed how much is in her: she learned quickly, adapted well, lived peacefully with the other dogs in the household, and generally proved to be a friendly, affectionate, and intelligent female dog. She also handled trips outside the shelter calmly and curiously. New environments, people, stray dogs, or traffic did not disturb her. Back at the shelter, she now lacks what she urgently needs: interaction, variety, and the opportunity to continue developing. Ricotta is a young, active female dog who loves to be on the move and explore her surroundings. She enjoys playing, is social with other dogs, and afterwards also appreciates the calm and closeness to her humans. At the same time, she brings the typical curiosity and willingness to learn of a young dog. However, one must not forget: Ricotta only knows life in a household in fragments. Many daily stimuli and routines are still foreign to her. She is at the beginning of her development and will have to learn a lot - from basic rules to secure handling of new situations. Because she has been in the shelter for so long, she will need orientation in a new environment. Patience, structure, and understanding are essential here. Ricotta is looking for people who enjoy working with a young dog and challenging it physically and mentally. An active home where she is included and can grow with her humans would be ideal. A young dog always means responsibility, time, and the willingness to get involved in a learning process. Ricotta is not a "ready-made" dog, but needs guidance, patience, and reliable structures. At the same time, she has everything it takes to become a cheerful, affectionate companion. Whoever gives Ricotta this chance not only gives her a home, but the possibility to spend the majority of her life where she belongs: by the side of her humans. Ricotta – junge Hündin wartet darauf, endlich richtig anzukommen Ricotta hatte keinen leichten Start ins Leben. About Ricotta

What life with Ricotta looks like

Ricotta is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ricotta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ricotta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ricotta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ricotta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ricotta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ricotta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ricotta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
