Skye

Border Collie · Female · Young · 3 years

Skye is athletic and clever. She loves to play catch with a ball and go for long walks. She has good recall and she knows many tricks. Skye thrives with learning new skills through positive reward training. She likes to carry a shoe about the house the moment you walk through the door. Her favourite treat is sausages! Skye takes her time to warm to new people, new people will need to take things slow, a ball and treats are the beginning of a great friendship! Once you are in Skye’s inner circle, she will show you her affectionate side and enjoy a fuss and snuggle with you. Skye is a three-year-old Collie cross Spaniel looking for a fun, loving home with adult adopters in a quiet, calm, household. She is looking for a home where she can be the only dog. Out and about on her walks, she doesn’t mind other dogs, she can meet and greet and then is happy to carry on with her walk or get on with playing ball. She has no history around cats, small furies, or livestock. Skye needs a quieter home environment without too many visitors coming and going. She is housetrained. She travels well in the car, and prefers her walks in fields, and would rather avoid busy locations like town, or areas with traffic. She will need the time she is left alone at home built up gradually. She would love a home with a garden as she adores laying outside and soaking up some rays!

About Skye

What life with Skye looks like

Skye is a small young adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Skye, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Skye?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Skye on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Skye if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Skye already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Skye isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Skye and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
