Szopen

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 11 months

Szopen is a dog who was taken in by an intervention. He was left alone with two other dogs on a fenced, forested area. He never knew a human, because his only contact with one was during feeding. He lived that way for most of his life. Under our care since 2022, but he hasn't made much progress. He lives in an external kennel run with another dog. He goes out to the yard, also with a person. He doesn't attack when he has the situation under control - meaning he has somewhere to escape and maintain distance. He rather doesn't approach people and definitely won't be petted. Szopen deserves a chance. He is an older dog and probably will never be socialized. However, he has a better chance of doing so with adoption and individual approach. He will probably not find himself in a home, because he spent most of his time like a wild animal, and the shelter for him was dug-out holes. In our opinion, he would best find himself in a well-fenced backyard, where he would have a kennel and space. He doesn't require much from a human - watering, feeding and basic care.

Szopen to psiak odebrany interwencyjnie.

About Szopen

What life with Szopen looks like

Szopen is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Szopen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Szopen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Szopen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Szopen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Szopen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Szopen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Szopen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
