Wilma

Mixed Breed · Female

Wilma was adopted from our shelter in 2022. In March 2026, she returned to us and is looking for a new home. Wilma originally came to us from the village of Veľká Ida. She was found with a large wound on the side of her body and smaller injuries in several places. She arrived completely wet and exhausted, but despite that, she was very kind and loyal from the beginning. She gradually recovered, received the necessary treatment and later also surgery - resection of the femoral head. The surgery is without consequences and Wilma functions like a regular dog, just not suitable for extremely long and demanding hikes. After returning to the shelter, Wilma shows as calm, very kind and friendly female dog. She gets along well with people, quickly forms bonds and greatly enjoys human proximity. She is gentle, contact-oriented and works well with her. She gets along well with other dogs and female dogs without problems and avoids conflicts. She behaves politely during the day, does not destroy things and has good hygiene habits. She loves plush toys - she can even "take them apart". From her original home we have information that she was used to children and handled normal household activity without problems. She likes people and can nicely adapt to a family environment. Wilma is a trouble-free female dog, which quickly gets used to her people and naturally fits into normal life in a family. HEALTH STATUS: The latest examination showed changes in the right eye, probably as a result of an older injury. Wilma cannot see with her right eye, however the eye is calm, without pain and without increased intraocular pressure, therefore surgical removal is not necessary. It is recommended to consult a vet in case changes such as redness or pain appear. Wilma is well adapted to her condition and does not significantly limit her in everyday life. Wilma is suitable for an apartment or a house with full access inside. It is also suitable for a family with children - people who will give her movement, company and a loving environment. Wilma is looking for a new home where she will have peace, human proximity and her place - a home where she will stay forever.

Wilma si hľadá nový domov, kde bude mať pokoj, blízkosť človeka a svoje miesto – domov, kde už zostane navždy.

About Wilma

What life with Wilma looks like

Wilma is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wilma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wilma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wilma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wilma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wilma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wilma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wilma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
