Zico

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

a gentle little fellow seeking security 🐾 Zico is an approximately 4-year-old male dog (born 09/2021) who is currently still in Romania waiting for his chance. When he arrived at the intake station, he was initially shy and reserved. Over time, however, he has gained trust in his caregivers and now enjoys their company and affection. In a new home, Zico will certainly need an adjustment period – patience and empathy are required here. He shows no aggression and has never tried to bite out of fear. When he feels unsure, he prefers to retreat and hide from unfamiliar people. Once he has gained trust, he slowly warms up and reveals his loving, gentle side. Zico gets along well with other dogs – a confident canine companion would be a great support for him. He also has no issues with cats. Since Zico needs time and peace to settle in, we wish for him a quiet home without small children. With a shoulder height of about 32 cm and a weight of 12 kg, he is a sturdy, medium-sized dog – perfect for those looking for a loyal companion who will become a wonderful friend with patience and love. 💛 Zico is waiting to finally find his Forever Home. Who will give him the chance he deserves?

DE·Show original

About Zico

What life with Zico looks like

Zico is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Step by Paw e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Step by Paw e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Step by Paw e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Step by Paw e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
