Mary arrived to the shelter after apparently her human went to the hospital, and in the beginning for a while we had the info that her family will come to pick her up, but in the end no..... Mary stayed in the shelter, at 13 years old.... One might think, wow she is old already, but in no way you would think that she is already a proper senior - she is sporty, active, fluffy, a bit chunky (because she really likes yummy food), and seems to be in really good health! She might outlive us all! When Mary first arrived, she was upset and grumpy, not trusting the humans around her, but once she saw that everyone respects her request for more personal space, and her wish not to be grabbed like a toy, then she lightened up and became much more cheerful and social. In the shelter, Mary lives together with another small dog Peanut, and together they go for long walks, and runs in the dog parks. Mary, being a lady in her golden years, appreciates people who respect her space and her right to be understood - she does not like grabby people, or when she is forced into something that she doesn't enjoy, and she is looking for a human, who will give her a bit of time to approach you herself. She loves to go walking with our volunteers, and is lovely and social with humans she already knows. Mary especially likes to get her butt scratched, and for snacks, she will sit and pose nicely. When she first arrived to us, she was a bit overweight, but now she is getting into her bikini shape. Mary is coming from a home environment, and shelter life is just not what she is used to..... she would very quickly adjust into a life in a home, and when she has her very own person, who she is with every day, she will open up like a beautiful flower and enjoy closeness with her human - she every enjoys a warm bath by her trusted humans! During a day out, Mary really loved to run on the beach, with her little feet in the water, and after an exiting day like this, she goes to deep sleep afterwards. She walks very well on the leash, and behaved politely with other dogs and humans. Mary would be happy to live in a variety of homes - near the nature or in a small town, in a house or in an apartment - she does not demand much from a home, and is just looking for a calm, understanding human with a kind pair of hands. Mary won't be rehomed to a home with children, for the sake of tranquility and respect for the dog's preferences. Mary's shoulder height is 47cm.
