Alfie est un très gentil garçon qui est venu nous rejoindre d'un foyer après que son propriétaire n'ait plus pu s'en occuper. On nous a dit qu'il a toujours vécu seul, bien qu'il ait eu une courte tentative de vivre avec un autre chien. Pendant cette période, il est devenu clair qu'Alfie peut devenir très attaché à ses maîtres et peut les protéger des autres chiens, car il préfère garder ses humains choisis pour lui seul. En raison de cela, il cherchera un foyer où il sera le seul chien et pourra bénéficier de tout l'amour et l'attention sans avoir à partager. Il apprécie rencontrer d'autres chiens pendant les promenades et peut s'adapter bien en dehors du domicile, mais il préfère ne pas partager son espace ou ses personnes. Alfie est une race de travail, donc il conviendra le mieux à des adoptants ayant une expérience précédente avec des races similaires, comprenant ses besoins et pouvant lui offrir beaucoup de stimulation mentale et physique. Il adore être en mouvement et se développe quand il a une structure et des activités sur lesquelles se concentrer. Il suit actuellement un plan d'entraînement pour l'aider avec sa réactivité aux voitures, ce qui va vraiment bien. Chaque jour, il sort 3 à 4 fois pour des séances d'entraînement courtes. Il a quelques minutes pour courir et dépenser son énergie, puis nous nous concentrons sur un entraînement structuré utilisant « assis Alfie », « regarde » suivi de récompenses sous forme de friandises et d'éloges. Ces séances durent environ 10 minutes chacune et il se révèle être un très intelligent garçon qui apprend rapidement et répond très bien à la routine. Alfie marche bien en laisse en général, bien qu'il puisse encore tirer parfois et réagir aux voitures passantes, donc cela nécessitera un entraînement continu et régulier dans son nouveau foyer. Une fois qu'il vous connaît, il adore les câlinages et les attentions et forme des liens forts et loyaux avec ses maîtres. Il bénéficiera d'adoptants qui ont beaucoup de temps à passer avec lui et qui sont heureux de continuer à construire sa confiance et de renforcer les comportements positifs. Nous considérerions l'adoption par des adolescents plus âgés qui connaissent les chiens et qui permettront à Alfie de s'installer à son propre rythme et de respecter son espace lorsqu'il en aura besoin. On nous a dit qu'il peut parfois aboyer lorsqu'on le laisse seul, donc ses adoptants devront progressivement augmenter le temps qu'il passe seul pendant qu'il s'habitue à son nouveau foyer. Étant donné qu'il a vécu précédemment dans un foyer, nous croyons qu'il est dressé à l'intérieur, bien qu'il puisse avoir besoin de quelques rappels pendant la période d'adaptation. Alfie aura besoin d'un jardin sécurisé avec une clôture d'au moins 6 pieds pour garantir sa sécurité. Alfie sera une excellente addition à un foyer aimant qui sera prêt à lui accorder beaucoup d'attention et à continuer à travailler avec lui sur son entraînement et son comportement. Alfie is a very sweet boy who has come to us from a home after his owner could no longer care for him. We are told that he has always lived as an only dog, although he did have a brief trial in a home with another dog. During that time, it became clear that Alfie can become very attached to his people and may guard them from other dogs, as he prefers to keep his chosen humans to himself. Because of this, he will be looking for a home where he can be the only dog and enjoy all the love and attention without having to share. He does enjoy meeting other dogs out on walks and can socialise well outside the home, but he prefers not to share his living space or people. Alfie is a working breed type, so he would be best suited to adopters with previous experience of similar breeds who understand his needs and can provide him with plenty of both mental and physical stimulation. He loves being out and about and thrives when he has structure and activities to focus on. He is currently working on a training plan to help with his car reactivity, which is going really well. Each day he is taken out 3–4 times for short training sessions. He is given a few minutes to run around and burn off energy, and then we focus on structured training using “Alfie sit,” “watch,” followed by treat rewards and praise. These sessions last around 10 minutes each time, and he is proving to be a very intelligent boy who is learning quickly and responding really well to the routine. Alfie walks well on the lead overall, though he can still pull at times and may react to passing cars, so this will need ongoing, consistent training in his new home. Once he knows you, he absolutely loves fuss and attention and forms strong, loyal bonds with his people. He would benefit from adopters who have plenty of time to spend with him and who are happy to continue building his confidence and reinforcing positive behaviours. We would consider homing him with older, dog-savvy teenagers who will allow him to settle at his own pace and respect his space when needed. We are told that he can sometimes bark when left alone, so his adopters will need to gradually build up any time he is left as he settles into his new home. As he has previously lived in a home, we believe he is house trained, although he may need some reminders during his settling-in period. Alfie will need a secure garden with fencing of at least 6ft to ensure he is kept safe. Alfie will make a wonderful addition to a loving home that is willing to give him plenty of attention and continue working with him on his training and behaviours. He has arrived to us with a docked tail.
