Duncan è un incrocio di media e grande taglia. Il suo passaporto lo indica come di sei anni, ma pensiamo che sia probabilmente più vecchio, forse otto o nove. Ha superato il test con i gatti. Preferirebbe essere l'unico cane, ma è contento con un altro cane di temperamento simile. Solo casa con adulti – ma i bambini in visita vanno bene a condizione che non interrompano i suoi pisolini. Duncan è stato salvato da un rifugio di allevamento in Romania. Da allora è stato in un rifugio privato, ma ora siamo felici di averlo accolto nel Regno Unito. Duncan è un ragazzo sonnolento che adora il fatto che ora ha comodi letti per dormire e sarà felice di trascorrere le sue ore sonnecchiando nella tranquilla consapevolezza che è al sicuro da danni. Si sta abituando agli altri cani nella sua casa di accoglienza, ma onestamente preferirebbe non averli lì. Potrebbe convivere con un altro cane di temperamento simile che non lo importuni. È contento di un breve saluto e di una coda che scodinzola e poi entrambi proseguono con la propria attività. Non è affatto turbato dal gatto salvato. Duncan vorrebbe una casa tranquilla e silenziosa dove trascorrere i suoi anni di pensione in pace. Può gestire passeggiate brevi per cambiare paesaggio, ma non vuole andare lontano perché ora deve dormire sui suoi letti a casa! Preferirebbe una casa con adulti, ma andrebbe bene con bambini in visita a condizione che rispettino il suo bisogno di pace e sonnellini. Cani anziani (10 anni o più): £150-£250 (in base all'età e alle esigenze individuali). Termini e condizioni di adozione Quando adotti un cane di Safe Rescue, DEVI usare un guinzaglio a scavalco. Questo terrà il tuo cane sicuro: il tuo nuovo cane sarà nervoso e non ti farà fiducia, e tu non saprai quali situazioni potrebbero preoccupare il tuo cane. Se il tuo cane si spaventa, allora il guinzaglio a scavalco è l'unica via per evitare che il cane scappi (molti cani riescono a scappare da collari e/o imbracature). Ci vorranno ALMENO 3-6 mesi per far abituare il cane e per conoscerlo pienamente (più a lungo per i cani ansiosi). Il guinzaglio a scavalco DEVE sempre essere utilizzato durante questo periodo di adattamento. Anche dopo che il cane si è abituato, è più sicuro usare il guinzaglio a scavalco in situazioni in cui il cane potrebbe spaventarsi (ad esempio visitare luoghi nuovi, intorno a persone sconosciute, dal veterinario), e in situazioni dove potrebbero verificarsi trigger inaspettati (ad esempio intorno alla notte dei fuochi d'artificio). I cani ansiosi potrebbero dover indossare sempre il guinzaglio a scavalco come misura di sicurezza aggiuntiva. Il guinzaglio a scavalco è un dispositivo di sicurezza e deve MAI essere utilizzato come strumento di addestramento. Usare il guinzaglio per esercitare pressione sul collo del cane è dannoso. Se il tuo cane tira il guinzaglio, possiamo consigliarti metodi di addestramento che evitino danni. Duncan is a medium to large crossbreed. His passport states him to be six years old but we think he is probably older, possibly eight or nine. Passed cat testing. Would prefer to be an only dog but happy with another dog of similar temperament. Adult only home – but visiting children fine as long as they didn’t interrupt his naps. Duncan was rescued from a kill shelter in Romania. He has been in a private shelter since then but we are now delighted to have welcomed him to the UK. Duncan is a sleepy boy who just loves the fact that he now has comfortable beds to sleep on and will quite happily snooze away his hours in the blissful knowledge that he is now safe from harm. He is mixing with other dogs in his foster home but in all honesty would prefer it if they weren’t there. He could live with another dog with a similar temperament that didn’t pester him. He’s happy to have a brief hello and a tail wag and then both parties go about their business. He wasn’t at all phased by the safe rescue cat. Duncan would like a calm and quiet retirement home to live out his senior years in peace. He can manage short walks for a change of scenery but doesn’t want to venture far because he has beds that need to be slept on at home now! He would prefer an adult home but would be ok with visiting children as long as they respected his need for peace and quiet and snoozes. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate.
