Hera

Female · Adult · 6 years

Hera is a beautiful female dog of German shepherd type, with whom we are just getting to know. In the first contact, Hera may seem withdrawn and indifferent - she needs a moment to trust and feel safe with a new person. However, when the tension decreases, she shows her second, very charming side. Hera is a dog that slowly opens up to people. Once she establishes contact, she can be interested, respond to the caregiver, come running, seek closeness and... give kisses. She knows basic commands like "sit" or "shake", loves massages (especially around the neck and front paws) and starts to enjoy spending time together. On walks, she walks calmly, doesn't pull, sniffs and observes the world, cars or city traffic don't affect her. This female dog will always find something to do - she'll peek in, jump in, likes to explore, is very smart and curious about everything. She really likes to play with toys. We haven't had the chance to check her attitude towards other dogs yet (we will complete this information soon). We don't know her attitude towards other pets, including cats. However, Hera is still a dog in emotions - she gets easily excited during play, jumps, can be clumsy, and sometimes nips from excitement. Wearing a harness and clothes is a challenge for her, as well as an overload of stimuli in the animal shelter. It's not a bad will - it's stress, lack of experience and sense of security, as well as frustration caused by being confined. However, with each subsequent walk and meeting, there are noticeable improvements. For Hera, we are looking for a calm, patient and consistent home, preferably with caregivers who have experience with dogs (especially German shepherds); people who will give her time to acclimate, won't expect a "perfect dog" on the first day and will understand that Hera needs stability, patience and safety to feel more confident; an active home that likes long walks, forests, meadows and working and learning with a dog; a place where she can fulfill her species-specific needs - movement, sniffing, tasks. Due to her strength and energy, I don't recommend her for a home with small children. If Hera were to go to a home where there is already another pet, it will be necessary to introduce her to the resident. During the adoption process, we recommend a pre-adoption visit to see how Hera will find her way in the potential walking area and home.

About Hera

What life with Hera looks like

Hera is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs patient, experienced owners for gradual socialization and confidence building

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hera, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hera?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hera on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hera if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hera already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hera isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hera and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
