Shaila

Central Asian Shepherd Dog · Female · Young · 2 years

Meet Shaila our beautiful Central Asian Shepherd mix. Shaila arrived at Battersea through no fault of her own. She has a lovely history in her prior home, her previous owners noting how she was a well behaved and affectionate girl who loved to follow her owners around. Shaila is looking for a home with experienced owners who have a good knowledge of guarding breeds. She has shown to be reactive to both humans and dogs while onsite and this will need managing in her new home, though no 'aggression' towards these triggers have been seen in her history or onsite. New owners will need to be confident in socialising her alongside providing her with enough mental and physical stimulation to meet all of her needs. Shaila can live with another dog, as long as they are respectful but not too over the top. Shaila has previously lived with other dogs, onsite she was initially worried, submissive and at times reactive to dogs further away. However she has shown to be much more comfortable around smaller dogs, often playful. Shaila will not be able to live with a cat, although she does have a history of living with 2 cats, they did not appreciate her interacting with them and would swat at her to chase her off. She would also grumble at them if they approached her while eating, though never escalated. She also history of chasing foxes and wildlife. Onsite Shaila has been friendly with everyone she has met. No issues with handling and when playing with her favourite people, she can be excitable and mouthy at times but stops playing when handler does. Due to this, she may be too overwhelming for children if they are not familiar with this breed/ behaviour, Shaila can live with teenagers. Shaila will need a private garden, due to being a large breed that can be worried at times, having a quiet space where she can relax outdoors and burn off some energy. Sweet Shaila really is a delightful girl who has won everyone over with her gentle nature. She would make the most loving and loyal of companions in any household lucky enough to have her! About Shaila

What life with Shaila looks like

Shaila is a extra-large young adult central asian shepherd dog dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Sensitive temperament requiring patient handling

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shaila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shaila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shaila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shaila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shaila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shaila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shaila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
