Choco is a small dog with a big heart and a story that is hard to bear without feeling angry and sad at the same time. For almost his entire life, Choco had a human. He lived with his owner for over eight years, was taken in as a puppy, raised in the house, loved. Choco knew the sofa, the warmth of an apartment, the routine of a shared daily life. He was not a street dog or a shelter dog - he was a family member. Then his human died and Choco came to his owner's daughter. But there was no room for him there - at least not inside. The woman's four-year-old son was allergic, it was said. And so Choco was banished: into a small kennel in the communal courtyard of the building. Always outside. And as if that were not enough, Choco's fur is shaved all year round - a torment for his skin and protection, even in the cold months. The woman says she does not want to give him up because she would feel guilty. But what she offers him is not a life. It is waiting in a courtyard, alone, without closeness, without what Choco knew all his life. Meanwhile, Choco is friendly, social, cuddly, and well-behaved. He has lived with humans since he was a puppy. He gets along with children. He is house-trained and easygoing. Choco is not a dog that must be painstakingly accustomed to a home - he already knows how it works. All you have to do is open the door. Choco is now almost ten years old. Some will say: too old. But those who think that do not understand what a dog like Choco has to offer. He brings no unrest, no chaos, no sleepless nights. He brings gratitude and peace. Whoever takes in Choco does not just save a dog. He gives a little guy the last good years he so desperately deserves. Choco does not need much. Choco ist ein kleiner Hund mit einem großen Herzen und einer Geschichte, die man kaum ertragen kann, ohne wütend und traurig zugleich zu werden. Fast sein ganzes Leben lang hatte Choco einen Menschen. Über acht Jahre lebte er bei seinem Besitzer, wurde als Welpe aufgenommen, im Haus erzogen, geliebt. Choco kannte das Sofa, die Wärme einer Wohnung, die Routine eines gemeinsamen Alltags. Er war kein Straßenhund, kein Tierheimhund – er war ein Familienmitglied. Dann starb sein Mensch und Choco kam zur Tochter seines Besitzers. Doch dort war kein Platz für ihn – zumindest nicht drinnen. Der vierjährige Sohn der Frau sei allergisch, hieß es. Und so wurde Choco verbannt: in einen kleinen Zwinger im Gemeinschaftshof des Wohnhauses. Immer draußen. Und als wäre das nicht genug, wird Chocos Fell das ganze Jahr über geschoren – eine Qual für seine Haut und seinen Schutz, selbst in den kalten Monaten. Die Frau sagt, sie wolle ihn nicht abgeben, weil sie ein schlechtes Gewissen hätte. Aber was sie ihm bietet, ist kein Leben. Es ist ein Warten in einem Hof, allein, ohne Nähe, ohne das, was Choco sein ganzes Leben lang kannte. Dabei ist Choco freundlich, sozial, verschmust und gut erzogen. Er kennt das Zusammenleben mit Menschen seit er ein Welpe war. Er versteht sich mit Kindern. Er ist stubenrein und unkompliziert. Choco ist kein Hund, den man erst mühsam an ein Zuhause gewöhnen muss – er weiß längst, wie es geht. Man muss ihm nur die Tür öffnen. Choco ist mittlerweile fast zehn Jahre alt. Manche werden sagen: zu alt. Aber wer so denkt, versteht nicht, was ein Hund wie Choco zu geben hat. Er bringt keine Unruhe, kein Chaos, keine schlaflosen Nächte. Er bringt Dankbarkeit und Ruhe. Wer Choco aufnimmt, rettet nicht nur einen Hund. Er gibt einem kleinen Kerl die letzten guten Jahre, die er so sehr verdient hat. Choco braucht nicht viel.
