🐾 Found tomcat from the Schrebergärten Meerholz 🐱 Tomcat Colin has lived outdoors for years—a life many cats lead: free, independent, but also full of risks. Now something has developed on his nose, and there’s almost a 100% chance it’s a squamous cell carcinoma. 💔 What does that mean? He can be operated on—but it’s not just “quick surgery and all better.” It means: – a long, intensive aftercare period – possibly additional therapy (radiation—still unclear) – regular care, medication, and check-ups – and above all: living indoors. For a long time. Maybe forever. And here’s the next problem: Colin isn’t an “easy” patient. He’s affectionate, yes—he allows superficial petting. But: no lifting, not easy to handle, not a tomcat who sits still and calmly cooperates with everything. Right now, he’s doing well. His lungs are clear. The prognosis isn’t bad. But: the road ahead is long, demanding, and draining—for both human and animal. And while we weigh all this, this big tomcat is currently sitting in the clinic ward—with a cold. Even moving him to the larger ward isn’t possible right now. So the question hangs in the air—the one no one wants to ask: How long should he sit in a cage at the animal shelter…? We’re still waiting for the lab results. We’re observing him. We’re not making any snap decisions. But one thing we can say already: Colin needs a home 🏡 💚 Someone who says: “I’ll walk this path with you.” Someone who can provide care, has time, patience, and the financial means—and who accepts that this tomcat can never go outside again. Does such a person exist? We don’t know. But we’re asking anyway. 🐾 Fundkater aus Schrebergärten Meerholz🐱 Kater COLIN hat jahrelang draußen gelebt. Ein Leben, wie es viele Katzen führen – frei, unabhängig, aber eben auch mit allen Risiken.Jetzt hat sich auf seiner Nase etwas entwickelt, und mit fast 100-prozentiger Wahrscheinlichkeit handelt es sich um ein Plattenepithelkarzinom. 💔 Was bedeutet das?Man kann operieren. Aber das ist kein „mal eben machen und gut ist“. Es bedeutet:– eine lange, intensive Nachbehandlung– eventuell zusätzliche Therapie (Bestrahlung – noch unklar)– regelmäßige Versorgung, Medikamente, Kontrolle– und vor allem: ein Leben drinnen. Für lange Zeit. Vielleicht für immer. Und jetzt kommt das nächste Problem: COLIN ist kein „einfacher“ Patient.Er ist lieb, ja. Er lässt sich oberflächlich streicheln. Aber: nicht hochheben, nicht gut händelbar, kein Kater, der stillhält und alles brav mitmacht.Aktuell geht es ihm gut. Die Lunge ist unauffällig. Die Prognosen sind nicht schlecht. Aber: der Weg dahin ist lang. Und aufwendig. Und kostet Kraft – für Mensch und Tier.Und während wir das alles abwägen, sitzt dieser große Kater aktuell in der Krankenstation. Mit Schnupfen. Nicht mal die größere Station ist gerade möglich. Und da steht sie im Raum, die Frage, die man nicht gerne stellt:Wie lange soll er im Tierheim in einer Box sitzen…? Wir warten noch auf die Labor Ergebnisse. Wir beobachten ihn. Wir entscheiden nichts übers Knie. Aber eines können wir jetzt schon sagen:COLIN braucht ein Zuhause 🏡 💚 Einen Menschen, der sagt: Ich geh den Weg mit dir. Der sich kümmern kann. Der Zeit, Geduld und auch die finanziellen Möglichkeiten hat. Und der akzeptiert, dass dieser Kater nicht mehr nach draußen kann. Gibt es so jemanden?Wir wissen es nicht.
