Gender: male Birthday: November 2016 Castrated/Neutered: yes Weight: 16 kg Back story: Oscar entered the shelter 2021 – raised by another rescuer and after a failed adoption abandoned at our shelter. Description/Updates/Pictures: Update January 2026: Update August 2021: His story is complicated, rather sad and the reason for the behavioral issue he has. Oscar was found and bottle fed by a person when he was a baby. He was separated from his mom at an extremely young age. Once he could eat he was unsuccessfully rehomed by this person who found and fed him. Oscar went to a very unstable home with lots of chaos, yelling and turmoil. We don’t know if he was directly abused but the environment visibly traumatized the animal’s development. One fine day Oscar was found tied outside of the shelter. When we noticed he had a microchip we spoke with the vet who contacted the declared owner. It was the father of the home. When we contacted him he explained that the family had dissipated. The mom and the dad had separated. Oscar was left with the mom. But the mom did not want him. When I further investigated his story I found out that the person who found him and bottle fed him was a rescuer but after contacting them and asking them to come and get their rescue they stated they wanted nothing to do with him either. So Oscar stayed with us. After some months we came to learn that Oscar had triggers and has bitten and can bite under certain situations. It is very sad for us because besides this issue he is a very happy, energetic, healthy animal. But who could take him? Only a very special person who is willing to dedicate more than the usual energies needed to co exist with such an animal would be ideal. Oscar is great with other dogs. Oscar is also great with humans BUT when triggered can bite. Not attack but bite. Please, if you are that special person who wants to REALLY save a life, who is interested in challenges in animal rearing, please contact us. Oscar is a darling, his behavior NOT his fault and he deserves his own family. Experienced handlers only. Update June 2021: Oscar is a handsome boy. See how happy he is now. What a smile! Oscar was abandoned in front of our shelter and we can only assume that the reason for it was that a lack of structure and boundaries in his life made him assume that snapping at people is an acceptable way to avoid uncomfortable situations. We can tell what a wonderful, playful, funny, young dog Oscar is and seeing him in the shelter makes us so very sad, because with some loving but consequent training his life could have been totally different. Oscar is a very sporty guy, he would be a great companion for some agility or dog sport or long hikes. He´s very smart and learns quickly, the good and the bad behavior. With other dogs, males and females, Oscar gets along great. For the above mentioned reasons he can only go to a home without children and to an experienced handler.
