Adopter Prince
Bernese Mountain Dog · Mand · Ung · 3 år
Prince is a beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog who was admitted into our care after being found as a stray, in a heartbreaking condition. Prince was found severely malnourished, emaciated and his coat was so heavily matted that he needed to be sedated to allow it to be safely shaved. Since coming into our care back in March, Prince has come an incredibly long way and has been slowly learning how to enjoy life! He has gained weight, his coat is growing back beautifully, and his wonderful personality has started to shine through! Despite his difficult start to life, Prince is one of the happiest dogs you could meet! He has quickly become a favourite within our animal care team, as he is an incredibly loving and affectionate boy who absolutely adores people. He thrives on human companionship and is happiest when he is by your side, whether that’s following you around or enjoying plenty of cuddles. He is a true people-dog who we know will make a wonderful, loyal companion for the right family. Prince is always so happy to meet new people and greets everyone with a lot of enthusiasm! Due to his size and excitement, he can sometimes jump up when saying hello, so we feel he would be best suited to a home with children over the age of 12 years old who are confident and have experience with large breed dogs. He would also be best suited to a home that have experience of large breed dogs. Prince would not be suited to living with cats but he may be able to share his home with another calm, large breed dog, following successful introductions at our centre. Unfortunately, Prince’s difficult start in life has left him with some ongoing health challenges, as he has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. His condition is currently manageable and he remains a happy boy, but he does have limitations. He enjoys getting out and about, but is best suited to short walks of around 15 minutes at a time. Several shorter walks throughout the day are ideal for him rather than longer outings. Prince will need a family who understand his needs and are committed to supporting him long term. This will include ongoing joint supplements and pain relief to help keep him comfortable and maintain his quality of life.
