Ayan, Druzhok... we never did find out what he was called within the “family.” All we learned was that life hadn’t been kind to him. Last month, we took him to the vet and discovered a tattoo on his belly—a pedigree number. We tracked down the pedigree, found the owner’s details—and guess what? His fate, like that of most hunting dogs, was simple: he’d served his purpose, was discarded, and replaced with a new one. In the pedigree, his name is Ayan; his breed is Russian-European Laika. He turned 11 years old on April 1st. He spent his eleventh birthday locked in a cage, surrounded by other dogs no one wanted. In direct messages, people wrote to us that the woman who’d taken him in called him Druzhok. We didn’t ask for details, but she herself isn’t exactly rushing to rescue him either. You’d have to see how he nestles against your legs, how he nudges you with his nose, asking you to keep petting him... He’s ready to completely melt into you, yet when you walk away, he just starts howling. It’s not the kind of howl that shatters your eardrums—it’s a different kind altogether, one that makes your heart skip a beat. He begins to howl softly, almost inaudibly, yet in that single howl there’s more depth than words could ever express. This grandfather is beautiful, intelligent, and infinitely kind. He walks nicely on a leash and obeys commands. He was recently neutered, and right now we’re looking for a home where he’ll be truly loved—loved for who he is. There’s such a thing as “taking someone in for the rest of their life,” but that’s not what he needs. He doesn’t need a favor in the form of a bowl of leftovers or a chain. He doesn’t need a leaky doghouse or a piece of moldy bread. What he needs is a person who’ll stick by him, love him deeply, and provide proper care if he ever needs it. He needs a Human. Ayan loves humans—and he’s waiting for someone who’ll love him just as much, or maybe even a little bit more, if that’s even possible.

Аян, Дружок… а как его называли в «семье», мы так и не узнали. Узнали лишь, что жизнь его не баловала. В прошлом месяце мы отвели его к врачу и обнаружили на животе татуировку с номером родословной. Нашли родословную, данные хозяина - и знаете что? Его участь, как и у большинства собак охотников - свое отслужил, выбросили, взяли нового. В родословной его имя Аян, порода русско-европейская лайка. Первого апреля ему исполнилось 11 лет. Свой одиннадцатый день рождения он провел в клетке, в окружении таких же никому не нужных собак. В директ нам писали, что женщина, его приютившая, звала его Дружком. Подробности мы не спрашивали, но и она не спешит его спасать. Надо видеть, как он прижимается к ногам и как носом просит гладить дальше…Он готов раствориться в человеке полностью, а когда человек уходит, он просто воет. Это не тот вой, от которого режет уши, это другой - от которого сердце пропускает удар. Он начинает выть сипло, едва слышно, но в этом вое собрано больше, чем можно сказать словами. Дедушка прекрасен, умен и бесконечно добр. Ходит на поводке и слушается. Недавно его кастрировали и сейчас ищем дом, где его будут любить. По-настоящему любить. Есть такое понятие, «взять на доживание», но это не то, что ему нужно. Ему не нужно одолжение в виде миски помоев и цепи. Ему не нужна дырявая будка и кусок плесневого хлеба. Ему нужен человек, который досмотрит, долюбит и долечит, если будет необходимость. Ему нужен Человек. Аян любит человека и ждет того, кто будет любить его так же или даже чуточку больше, если это вообще возможно.
