At first, when Dexter arrived at the shelter, he was terrified of everything and everyone, and it took him some time to trust humans. However, today he’s a completely different dog—joyful, boldly stepping forward, and newly met people don’t scare him anymore. He’s not the type of little dog who immediately craves human touch; you have to earn that trust, sometimes with treats—Dexter loves treats! With people he trusts, he’ll tilt his rear end for petting, lie down on your lap, and thoroughly enjoy close proximity. At the beginning, he’d pull enthusiastically on walks, but after just a short while, he started walking beautifully on a loose leash, responding instantly to his name. He can easily pass by a busy street without any trouble, though he certainly wouldn’t thrive in an urban environment on a daily basis. Initially, he felt stressed indoors, but now he explores every corner with curiosity and even lies down calmly with a chew toy in his mouth. He reacts timidly toward other dogs; if given the choice, he prefers to ignore them, and he appreciates it when another dog does the same. On walks, he passes other dogs without issue, but if one gets too close, Dexter will feel uncertain. It’s possible he could live with another dog—as long as that dog is willing to give him space and ignore him until Dexter feels more confident around him. Dexter also completely ignores cats on walks—it’s possible he could live with a cat, too. Dexter doesn’t handle being left alone in his shelter kennel well; it’s very likely that we’ll need to work with him on getting comfortable being home alone. Dexter is looking for a home that will give him time and space at first, allowing him to build trust at his own pace. And Dexter will surely repay that trust with immense loyalty and devotion.

Dexter na początku, gdy trafił do schroniska był przerażony wszystkim i wszystkimi, zaufanie człowiekowi zajęło mu trochę czasu. Jednak aktualnie to zupełnie inny psiak – radosny, odważnie kroczący przed siebie, a nowo poznane osoby nie są mu straszne. Nie jest to typ miziaka, który od razu pragnie dotyku człowieka, na to sobie trzeba zasłużyć czasem i smaczkami, które Dexter kocha. Do zaufanych osób nadstawia zadek do drapania, kładzie się na kolanach i ceni sobie bliskość. Na spacerze na początku ciągnie z emocji, ale chwilka i już idzie pięknie na luźnej smyczy, reagując momentalnie na zawołanie. Potrafi przejść bez problemu obok ruchliwej ulicy, ale na pewno nie odnajdzie się na codzień w miejskim otoczeniu. Na początku w pomieszczeniach był zestresowany, aktualnie zwiedza z zaciekawieniem każdy kąt i potrafi położyć się z gryzakiem. Na inne psy reaguje lękliwie, jak ma wybór to woli ignorować psa i lubi jak drugi pies też go ignoruje. Na spacerach bez problemu mija psy, ale jednak jak ten będzie za blisko to Dexter będzie niepewnie się czuć. Możliwe, że mógł by zamieszkać z innym psem, ale ten by musiał go ignorować do czasu, aż Dexter poczuje się pewniej w jego obecności. Koty na spacerze także całkowicie ignoruje – możliwe, że mógłby zamieszkać z kotem. Dexter źle znosi zostawanie samemu w schroniskowym boksie, bardzo prawdopodobne, że będzie trzeba popracować z nim nad zostawaniem samemu w domu. Dexter szuka domu, który na początku da mu czas i przestrzeń, żeby mógł on we własnym czasie zaufać. A Dexter na pewno odwdzięczy się ogromnym przywiązaniem.
