Dolores is a female dog of the long-haired German Shepherd type, born in 2017. She weighs about 30 kg. She is a large, very present female dog, but at the same time very gentle in her demeanor. She was brought to the animal shelter in poor condition. She had extensive tumors on the mammary glands, required urgent surgery, X-ray diagnostics and further treatment. Her coat was dull, her teeth were incomplete and worn. It was immediately clear that her life had not been easy. Today she has undergone the operation, the wound has healed properly, and the stitches have been removed. She still has another stage of treatment ahead (planned second package mastectomy and spaying). This female dog now needs above all peace and stability. Her daily routine: In the kennel run she was very withdrawn. She avoided intense contact, preferring distance. This is not a dog that immediately approaches and demands attention. Rather, she observes. She checks. She needs a moment to feel safe. In enclosed spaces she behaves very cautiously and uncertainly. All signs indicate that she probably did not live in a home before; new spaces are difficult for her and require a calm introduction. On the yard there is a change. Her body relaxes there. She calmly explores the area, sniffs a lot, is interested in the surroundings. She likes to observe. She does not go for toys, she prefers silence and analyzing the world around her. She has a low to moderate energy level. She walks nicely on a leash, follows the person. Called with a calm voice, a click or a whistle, she reacts and can approach. Human relationship: The human being overwhelms her, especially a new one and too intense. If someone goes to her directly, tries to catch her quickly or impose contact, she withdraws and moves away. She prefers to avoid rather than confront. There is no aggression in her. There is fear and the need for distance. When she gets time and space, she allows herself to be petted. With closer acquaintance, she can be friendly. This is a relationship that must be built calmly - without expectations that closeness will appear on the first day. Putting on a collar or more direct manipulations is still difficult for her. This is an area for further behavioral work. Other dogs: She is stable towards dogs behind the fence. She approaches confidently, shows no fear or aggression, although she can take a dominant posture. She was interested in other dogs. Co-habitation with another dog requires prior introduction. In our animal shelter, it is possible to arrange such a meeting and we strongly encourage it. Challenges and needs: This is not a dog for a person who dreams of immediate, expressive contact. Dolores needs: - a quiet, predictable home, - a patient and attentive caregiver, - someone who accepts her pace, - space, preferably a house with a garden. She will not find herself in a very dynamic environment, among many new stimuli and frequent visits from guests. She will also not be happy with someone who expects quick results and immediate "opening up". This female dog will build a relationship step by step. And only when she feels that nothing is expected from her. Health: She is after the first stage of surgical treatment. The wound has healed properly. She has another planned operation ahead (second package mastectomy of the mammary glands and spaying planned in March). Medical details are discussed during the adoption interview. The new caregiver must be ready for further veterinary check-ups and conscious health care. Dolores to suczka w typie owczarka niemieckiego długowłosowego, urodzona w 2017 roku. Waży około 30 kg. To duża, wyraźna w swojej obecności sunia, ale jednocześnie bardzo delikatna w sposobie bycia. Do schroniska trafiła w złej kondycji. Miała rozległe guzy listwy mlecznej, wymagała pilnej operacji, diagnostyki RTG oraz dalszego leczenia. Jej sierść była matowa, uzębienie niekompletne i starte. Już na pierwszy rzut oka było widać, że życie jej nie oszczędzało. Dziś jest po zabiegu, rana zagoiła się prawidłowo, szwy zostały usunięte. Przed nią jeszcze kolejny etap leczenia (planowana mastektomia drugiego pakietu i sterylizacja). To suczka, która potrzebuje teraz przede wszystkim spokoju i stabilizacji. Jej codzienność: W kojcu była mocno wycofana. Unikała intensywnego kontaktu, wybierała dystans. To nie jest pies, który od razu podchodzi i domaga się uwagi. Raczej obserwuje. Sprawdza. Potrzebuje chwili, żeby poczuć się bezpiecznie. W pomieszczeniach zamkniętych zachowuje się bardzo ostrożnie i niepewnie. Wszystko wskazuje na to, że prawdopodobnie nie mieszkała wcześniej w domu, nowe przestrzenie są dla niej trudne i wymagają spokojnego wprowadzenia. Na wybiegu widać zmianę. Tam jej ciało się rozluźnia. Spokojnie eksploruje teren, dużo węszy, interesuje się otoczeniem. Lubi obserwować. Nie ciągnie do zabawek, wybiera ciszę i analizowanie świata wokół siebie. Poziom energii ma niski do umiarkowanego. Ładnie chodzi na smyczy, podąża za człowiekiem. Przywołana spokojnym głosem, cmokaniem czy gwizdem, reaguje i potrafi podejść. Relacja z człowiekiem: Człowiek ją przytłacza, zwłaszcza nowy i zbyt intensywny. Jeśli ktoś idzie do niej frontalnie, próbuje ją szybko złapać czy narzucić kontakt, wycofuje się i odchodzi. Woli uniknąć niż konfrontować się. Nie ma w niej agresji. Jest lęk i potrzeba dystansu. Gdy dostaje czas i przestrzeń, pozwala się pogłaskać. Przy bliższym poznaniu potrafi być przyjazna. To relacja, którą trzeba budować spokojnie – bez oczekiwań, że bliskość pojawi się od pierwszego dnia. Zakładanie obroży czy bardziej bezpośrednie manipulacje nadal są dla niej trudne. To obszar do dalszej pracy behawioralnej. Inne psy: Wobec psów za siatką jest stabilna. Podchodzi pewnie, nie wykazuje lęku ani agresji, choć potrafi przyjąć postawę dominującą. Była zainteresowana innymi psami. Ewentualne wspólne zamieszkanie z drugim psem wymaga wcześniejszego zapoznania. W naszym schronisku istnieje możliwość takiego spotkania i bardzo do niego zachęcamy. Wyzwania i potrzeby: To nie jest pies dla osoby, która marzy o natychmiastowym, wylewnym kontakcie. Dolores potrzebuje: - spokojnego, przewidywalnego domu, - opiekuna cierpliwego i uważnego, - kogoś, kto zaakceptuje jej tempo, - przestrzeni,najlepiej domu z ogrodem. Nie odnajdzie się w bardzo dynamicznym środowisku, wśród wielu nowych bodźców i częstych wizyt gości. Nie będzie też szczęśliwa przy osobie, która oczekuje szybkich efektów i natychmiastowego „otwarcia się”.To suczka, która będzie budować relację krok po kroku. I tylko wtedy, gdy poczuje, że niczego się od niej nie wymaga. Zdrowie: Jest po pierwszym etapie leczenia chirurgicznego. Rana zagoiła się prawidłowo. Przed nią kolejny planowany zabieg (mastektomia drugiego pakietu mlecznego oraz sterylizacja planowana w marcu). Szczegóły medyczne omawiamy podczas rozmowy adopcyjnej. Nowy opiekun musi być gotowy na dalszą kontrolę weterynaryjną i świadomą opiekę zdrowotną.
