Gustav – the people-loving heart dog who finally wants to be seen! About four years ago, Gustav was given up by his owner at our shelter. No reason was given, likely because his previous owner simply couldn't take care of him anymore… After that, Gustav disappeared into the large animal shelter operation and was largely overlooked for a long time. It was only when a photo shoot was organized for a calendar that the animal welfare workers on site discovered the little prince: an attached male dog who beamed with joy as soon as he was allowed to greet people. Today, Gustav shares his pen with his girlfriend Astrid in the socialization section of the shelter. He immediately accepted the harness and is already walking surprisingly well on a leash. Although he is very excited in the pen when he realizes that it's finally time to go out, he quickly calms down once he's outside. It's clear how much the confined pen life affects him, as even the smallest walk represents a small piece of freedom. Despite his lively excitement in the pen, Gustav is not a dog who runs wild. On the dog playfield, he prefers to stay in the vicinity of Astrid and his trusted people. People are more important to him than anything else, their proximity, their attention, and their cuddles give him security. It would therefore be absolutely no problem if there were already an existing only dog in his future family for him to orient himself around. Gustav would, however, also be the perfect candidate to end up as a solitary prince – the more attention, the more tails wagging 😉 In the socialization program, Gustav shows how eager to learn he is. He loves food more than anything, even though he sometimes still isn't quite sure how to skillfully take treats from the hand. His first exercises, like "sit," are already excellent, and he is always happy when he is praised.

Gustav – der menschenbezogene Herzenshund, der endlich gesehen werden will! Vor etwa vier Jahren wurde Gustav von seinem Besitzer im Tierheim abgegeben. Einen Grund hat man nicht genannt, vermutlich konnte sich sein Vorbesitzer einfach nicht mehr um ihn kümmern… Danach verschwand Gustav im großen Tierheimbetrieb und wurde lange Zeit schlicht übersehen. Erst als für einen Kalender ein Fototermin organisiert wurde, entdeckten die Tierschützer vor Ort den kleinen Prachtkerl: einen anhänglichen Rüden, der vor Freude strahlte, sobald er die Menschen begrüßen durfte. Heute teilt Gustav sich den Zwinger mit seiner Freundin Astrid im Sozialisierungsteil des Tierheims. Er hat das Geschirr sofort akzeptiert und läuft bereits erstaunlich gut an der Leine. Zwar ist er im Zwinger sehr aufgeregt, wenn er merkt, dass es endlich rausgeht, doch sobald er draußen ist, beruhigt er sich schnell. Man merkt deutlich, wie sehr ihm das enge Zwingerleben zusetzt, da stellt jeder noch so kleine Spaziergang ein kleines Stück Freiheit dar. Trotz seiner lebhaften Freude im Zwinger ist Gustav kein Hund, der wild herumrennt. Auf dem Hundespielplatz bleibt er lieber in der Nähe von Astrid und seinen Bezugspersonen. Menschen sind für ihn wichtiger als alles andere, ihre Nähe, ihre Aufmerksamkeit und ihre Streicheleinheiten geben ihm Sicherheit. Es wäre daher absolut kein Problem, wenn es in seiner zukünftigen Familie bereits einen Ersthund gibt an dem sich Gustav orientieren kann. Gustav wäre allerdings auch der perfekte Kandidat um als Einzelprinz zu enden – denn je mehr Aufmerksamkeit desto mehr Schwanz wedeln 😉 Im Sozialisierungsprogramm zeigt Gustav, wie lernwillig er ist. Er liebt Futter über alles, auch wenn er manchmal noch nicht so recht weiß, wie man Leckerli geschickt aus der Hand nimmt. Erste Übungen wie „Sitz“ klappen schon ganz hervorragend, und er freut sich jedes Mal, wenn er gelobt wird.
