Louie is a confident and lively dog at Battersea Old Windsor, who loves to use his clever brain. He has a lovely history from his previous home and was housetrained, travelled well in the car and was happy to greet visitors. Here at Battersea Old Windsor we have seen Louie to be very affectionate- if you sit on the floor with him, he tries to climb onto your lap or will flop his head onto your legs for a stroke of his soft ears. Despite being affectionate, he is an active dog who will need plenty to keep him busy, both in his mind and body. One of his great loves is tennis balls and he would play for hours if he was able to. Louie can become demanding for his toys and bark at people to throw them so, after a game, we put the toys away and then he will settle happily for a snooze. We look for creative ways to give him his meals to give him something to think about and he works them all out really quickly, so his new owners may enjoy thinking up lots of fun ways to keep Louie engaged and happy. He’s got a great nose and can find a tennis ball anywhere it’s hidden so would excel at scent or search games. He's mastered the art of opening doors and cupboards so his owners will need to be one step ahead of him with this. Louie generally likes to keep to himself around other dogs and is very clear if he is uncomfortable. He is not looking for dog friends and will not suit a home that wants to walk with other dogs or have lots of visiting dogs. He should live as the only pet at home and will not enjoy walking in highly dog populated areas. Talking of which, Louie could walk for miles and adores being out and about exploring. He will need his own garden that is fully secure so that he can potter around, and would also enjoy time in secure, private dog fields so that he can really burn off some energy, chase a tennis ball and have lots of relaxing time to sniff. Louie is very anxious when he is left alone at home and will bark and get stressed; this is something that his new owners will need to manage as he settles in and then look to put some support in place to help Louie get used to spending short periods of time alone. We know that a home with one person is not ideal for Louie as he forms strong bonds and struggles when his one person leaves, so a home with multiple people living there to share his care and ensure he is not left alone is needed. Louie is a wonderful, comical character who would really suit owners who enjoy the great outdoors and are looking for an intelligent and loving dog to train.
