Meet Lucia Lucia was born in 2021. In August 2024, she was taken to the vet by someone who could no longer care for her, so NAWS took over her care. When Lucia was found, she had a broken pelvis and was dragging her back legs. After spending many weeks resting in a small crate, her fracture healed. She still walks a little wobbly and needs time to rebuild her muscles after such a long period of restricted movement. At first, Lucia was very scared, but she has slowly become more trusting. Now she enjoys gentle cuddles from the people she knows. She also gets along well with the other FIV+ cats she lives with, as they share the same outdoor enclosure. Medical condition Lucia lives with FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus – a slow acting species –specific virus that weakens a cat’s immune system, making them susceptible to infections. ) Because of this chronic illness Lucia cannot be adopted into a typical home and will remain at our shelter, where we ensure she receives lifelong care, safety, and comfort.
