Moto Moto is very special in many ways. His appearance and behavior make him a dream cat for many—and of course, for us as well—but we mustn't overlook his health limitations. Moto Moto roamed outside unneutered, yet he was microchipped. The way he behaves suggests he must have had a home at some point; however, so far no one has come forward to say they're missing him. Unfortunately, Moto Moto is FIV-positive and therefore immunocompromised. FIV is often referred to as "cat AIDS," but this term is misleading. While the viral disease is incurable, it's not a death sentence either. FIV-positive cats can live long, fulfilling lives, though they are more susceptible to other illnesses and secondary infections. Most of the time, the virus itself remains asymptomatic. To prevent further infection of other cats, we do not place 'Fiverlings' like Moto Moto in outdoor access environments. Overall, Moto Moto is simply a lovable, cozy, chocolate-brown fellow with a strikingly distinctive physique. He’s large, heavy, and moves accordingly with a rather ponderous gait. Due to his breed (and late neutering), Moto Moto has an enormous head with a flat nose and thick cheeks. He somewhat resembles a bulldog—and unfortunately, he also sounds like one. Moto Moto grunts and huffs where other cats purr, and even his meow is more of a gurgling or croaking sound. When he sleeps, he snores quite noticeably and doesn’t breathe particularly well. In his early days at the shelter, he had an infection—partly due to eye discharge—which we treated. Since there was no improvement, we sent a nasal swab to the lab. The results revealed Pasteurella bacteria, which were also treated with antibiotics. Regular inhalations didn’t bring any relief either, so Moto Moto continues to grunt along quietly. As you might notice, his appetite hasn’t been affected by this. A brief introduction to another FIV-positive tomcat showed that Moto Moto can be quite the stalker and dominant personality. We’re therefore placing him as an only cat—though at over 6 kg, he could easily handle two cats as well. Somewhat older children might be acceptable in his future home; beginners with cats, however, should proceed with caution, as it’s highly beneficial to be familiar with FIV and other aspects of feline health. As for his behavior, Moto Moto is mostly easygoing: he loves lots of cuddles, occasionally plays, enjoys eating, and every few steps he’ll flop onto his back on the floor, stretching out contentedly. When petted, he grunts happily to himself.

Moto Moto ist in vielerlei Hinsicht sehr besonders. Sein Aussehen und Verhalten machen ihn für viele (und für uns natürlich auch) zu einem Traumkater; über seine gesundheitlichen Einschränkungen sollte jedoch nicht hinweggesehen werden. Moto Moto lief unkastriert draußen herum, war aber gechippt. Auch so wie er sich benimmt, muss er ein Zuhause gehabt haben; bisher hat sich jedoch niemand gemeldet, der ihn vermisst. Leider ist Moto Moto FIV-positiv und somit immungeschwächt. FIV wird oft Katzenaids genannt, allerdings ist der Ausdruck irreführend. Die Viruserkrankung ist nicht heilbar, aber auch kein Todesurteil. FIV-positive Katzen können ein langes, erfülltes Katzenleben haben, sind jedoch anfälliger für andere Erkrankungen und Sekundärinfektionen. Die meiste Zeit kann das Virus selbst symptomfrei sein. Um die Ansteckungen weiterer Katzen zu verhindern, vermitteln wir ‘Fiverlinge’ wie Moto Moto nicht in Freigang. Insgesamt ist Moto Moto einfach ein liebenswürdiger, gemütlicher, schokobrauner Brummer mit einem sehr auffälligen Körperbau. Er ist groß, schwer und bewegt sich entsprechend behäbig. Aufgrund seiner Rasse (und der späten Kastration) hat Moto Moto einen riesigen Kopf mit einer platten Nase und dicken Backen. Er erinnert teilweise an eine Bulldogge und hört sich leider auch so an. Moto Moto grunzt und schnauft, wo andere Katzen schnurren und auch sein Miauen ist eher ein Gurgeln oder Krächzen. Im Schlaf schnarcht er nicht unerheblich und kriegt auch nicht besonders gut Luft. In seiner Anfangszeit im Tierheim lag auch unter anderem aufgrund von Augenausfluss eine Infektion nahe. Diese haben wir behandelt und weil die Besserung ausblieb, einen Nasenabstrich ins Labor geschickt. Das Ergebnis waren leider Pasteurellen, welche ebenfalls mit Antibiose behandelt wurden. Regelmäßige Inhalationen brachten auch keine Besserung, also grunzt Moto Moto weiter vor sich hin. Wie man vielleicht erkennen kann, ist sein Appetit dadurch nicht beeinträchtigt. Eine kurze Zusammenführung mit einem anderen FIV-Kater ergab, dass Moto Moto ein ziemlicher Stalker und Platzhirsch sein kann. Wir vermitteln ihn daher als Einzelprinz – der mit über 6kg auch für zwei Katzen durchgehen kann. Etwas größere Kinder sind in seinem künftigen Zuhause ggf. vorstellbar; Katzenanfänger:innen nur bedingt, denn es ist von großem Vorteil sich mit FIV und anderen Themen der Katzengesundheit auszukennen. Was sein Verhalten angeht, gibt sich Moto Moto die meiste Zeit unkompliziert: er will viel kuscheln, ab und zu spielen, futtert gerne und wirft sich alle paar Schritte der Länge nach auf den Boden, um sich genüsslich auszustrecken. Wird er gestreichelt, grunzt er vor Freude vor sich hin.
