Somerset Adoption fee £250 Male (Tweenie – 10kg) ● 6 years old ● Chocolate dapple, smooth/wire cross ● Neutered Percy is a lovely, affectionate and sociable boy looking for a secure and settled home where he can thrive. He enjoys the company of other dogs and is happiest when he has canine companionship around him. He would ideally be rehomed with a friendly female dog, although he may also be able to live with a suitable male following careful introductions. Percy can be cautious around larger dogs, particularly due to having previously been attacked by one. When he sees other dogs, he may occasionally bark or lunge, especially when they are further away, but these reactions are generally brief and do not appear to be aggressive. It is possible that some of his barking is simply an attempt to interact or play, although this is difficult to know. He is generally more comfortable with smaller dogs and currently has a very good relationship with both another Dachshund and a Jack Russell Terrier that he lives with. Percy is both crate and muzzle trained. He has not used his crate for approximately two years, so his new family may need to gradually reintroduce this if they wish to continue using it. He is accustomed to having plenty of space at home, with a large garden where he can exercise and explore. He currently has around four walks each week alongside access to the garden and can be left for up to five hours when he has other dogs for company. His new family should allow him plenty of time to settle and adjust to his new surroundings and routine. Percy currently lives with children, but following a recent incident where he nearly bit his owner’s two-year-old daughter, his family feels that the risk around very young children is too high. He has also previously bitten a neighbour, which his owner believes was a circumstantial incident. Taking both incidents into consideration, his family feels that rehoming is the safest and most responsible decision for everyone involved. For this reason, Percy is looking for a home with children aged 10 and over, where his boundaries can be understood and respected and where he can receive the patient, consistent guidance he needs.
