Piper is a "wobbly cat." We do not know the reason for her ataxia – however, since her sister is also ataxic, it is not unlikely that the sisters may have received this neurological impairment due to an infection their mother had during pregnancy. It is immediately noticeable that Piper is limited in her coordination and movement, but the extent of this can be managed very well with some assistance in daily life. For the active Piper, her environment should be designed so that she can reach everything where her drive takes her … but with some accident prevention. With Piper, curiosity overcomes ataxia – and so she loves to jump on her discovery tours, which sometimes works out well … and sometimes not so well. Many climbing aids and intermediate steps help Piper to reach everything safely. Moreover, Piper is very people-oriented and cuddly and does not know the word "no" when invited to an exciting game. Generally, Piper knows other cats, but she shows a rather dismissive attitude towards them in our cat house. It is quite possible that "normal" cats intimidate her, as they move securely and quickly … and especially differently from what she is used to with her sister. This cat needs outdoor access.

Piper ist eine “Wackelkatze”. Den Grund für ihre Ataxie kennen wir nicht – da aber ihre Schwester auch ataktisch ist, ist es nicht unwahrscheinlich, dass die Schwestern durch eine Infektion der Mutter in der Trächtigkeit diese neurologische Beeinträchtigung bekommen haben. Man sieht sofort, dass Piper in ihrer Koordination und Bewegung eingeschränkt ist, aber das Ausmaß ist mit ein paar Hilfestellungen im Alltag sehr gut zu händeln. Für die aktive Piper sollte ihr Umfeld so gestaltet sein, dass sie alles erreichen kann, wo ihr Tatendrang sie hinführt … aber mit einiger Unfallvorsorge. Bei Piper siegt Neugier über Ataxie – und so springt sie auch gerne auf ihren Entdeckertouren, was mal ganz gut … manchmal aber auch nicht so gut klappt. Viele Kletterhilfen und Zwischenstufen helfen Piper, sicher alles erreichen zu können. Darüber hinaus ist Piper sehr menschenbezogen und verschmust und kennt das Wort “Nein” nicht, wenn man sie zu einem spannenden Spiel auffordert. Grundsätzlich kennt Piper andere Katzen, zeigt sich jedoch bei uns im Katzenhaus eher abweisend. Es ist gut möglich, dass “normale” Katzen sie einschüchtern, da diese sich sicher und schnell bewegen … und vor allem anders, als sie es von Geburt an von ihrer Schwester gewöhnt ist. Freigang kommt für Piper als Ataxie-Katze nicht in Frage, ein abgesicherter Balkon ist jedoch Voraussetzung für eine
