She's a lovely, confident girl who enjoys affection and interaction but is equally happy doing her own thing. Much of her café life is spent melting into the big cushions for a snooze, happily accepting head rubs, chin scratches, and strokes from whoever happens to be nearby. She's affectionate without being clingy. Smokey doesn't generally seek out laps or constantly follow people around, but she'll happily enjoy attention when it's offered. Like any self-respecting independent lady, she also knows when she's finished. Once she's had enough fuss, she may give a little bat to communicate that the interaction is over, so her family will need to understand and respect her body language. Then there's Smokey's playful side. Give this girl a laser and she could chase it for ages. She also loves feathers and tunnel toys and regularly joins other cats for games. Once the fun is finished, she's quite content to find a sunny spot or disappear back into one of those giant cushions for another snooze. Smokey gets along very well with other cats. She'll play as part of the group and has caused no problems in the café, but she doesn't form particularly dependent relationships with them - she doesn't groom or sleep with the others and doesn't need feline company to feel secure. This means she could happily live with other cats or be the only cat in her new home. Her carers also feel she's confident and independent enough that she may be able to live with a cat-savvy dog, provided introductions are handled appropriately and she always has somewhere to retreat. Smokey could live with children, but the right expectations are important. She isn't a cuddly, needy cat and children would need to understand when she's telling them she's had enough. Those able to recognise her body language, respect her boundaries, and enjoy playing with her rather than constantly handling her could be a good match. She is a remarkably unfazed cat and hasn't shown fear around people, children, household items, loud noises, or sudden movements. She could cope with a busy household and can also happily spend a full working day alone. Smokey could enjoy safe outdoor access after her settling period or live entirely indoors with sufficient stimulation. Whichever lifestyle her new family chooses, toys are required to keep her happy and stimulated. If your ideal cat is confident and entertaining but also perfectly capable of occupying herself, Smokey could be exactly what you're looking for. Give her somewhere comfortable to snooze, plenty of toys, affection when she requests it, and the freedom to be independent and she'll fit beautifully into her new home.
