Thelma was discovered with her son Louis near a busy road in Vicar at the beginning of 2023. For three whole days, Thelma managed to evade the capture attempts of the animal welfare workers, even with her then still very clumsy puppy at her side. When they finally succeeded in securing the two dogs, Thelma and Louis were allowed to spend their quarantine period and receive their first vaccinations in a foster family. It quickly became clear that the bond between Thelma and her son is extraordinary. To this day (Louis is now 10 months old as of August 2023), the brave mother literally fights to the last drop of blood to protect Louis. Thelma is friendly with all dogs, but she will not let anyone near her son, which is why stays in a pack are only possible when the animal welfare workers from Puri Refugio separate Louis and Thelma. It’s hard to guess why Thelma is so fixated on her son, but since Louis was traveling with his mother alone, it raises the question of what happened to the rest of the litter and whether Thelma suffered significant losses. Thelma is a 3.5-year-old Mastix-Mix. When Louis is not around, Thelma does just fine in a larger pack and has many doggy friends. The confident and strong female dog likes the animal welfare workers, has no problems with physical contact, and even enjoys belly rubs and cuddles. Although Thelma is not a small or light dog, she is easy to handle and shows great manners and consideration on the leash. Thelma is the perfect companion for people who are looking for a true partner. Our exemplary mother is calm and considerate, befitting a home guard dog. Since Thelma is typically watchful and considers it her natural duty to protect her home, it would be great if her new sphere of influence included a secure garden where she could take on the security duty in a promotional and highly decorative way. But Thelma also loves long walks where she can meet friends, charm neighbors, and discover the world. We know that many people are inspired by our large dogs, but we ask all those who seriously consider giving one of our HSH snuggle bears a chance to get to know the breed (and we are happy to help). From my own experience, I can only say that it is the greatest gift to win the heart of one of these friendly giants, and a deep relationship with an animal is rarely possible. But if you are looking for a dog that jumps over tires, sits on command, and gives you a perfect roll of the tongue when you are sad, you might want to consider a different companion. A home guard dog means having a shadow that always seeks your company with tender affection, one that will never leave you, can roll its tongue perfectly, and will whisper in your ear the moment it notices you are sad, one that will defend your children with its life and at the same time be the most amazing snuggle cushion for the kids… My HSH princess sits beside me, looking expectantly, as if to say that I hope I have drawn a beautiful picture of Thelma and she is very excited to see where Thelma’s adventure as a family dog will begin. And so am I, and we would be delighted to continue following their story!.

Thelma wurde Anfang des Jahres 2023 mit ihrem Sohn Louis neben einer vielbefahrenen Straße in Vicar entdeckt. Ganze drei Tage schaffte es Thelma, den Einfangversuchen der Tierschützer zu entkommen und das mit einem damals noch sehr tollpatschigen Welpen an ihrer Seite. Als es dann doch endlich gelang, die beiden Hunde zu sichern, durften Thelma und Louis erst einmal in eine Pflegefamilie ziehen, wo sie die Quarantäne verbrachten und ihre ersten Impfungen erhielten. Schnell zeigte sich, dass die Bindung zwischen Thelma und ihrem Sohn außergewöhnlich ist. Bis heute (Louis ist mittlerweile 10 Monate alt – Stand 08/2023) verteidigt die tapfere Mama Louis buchstäblich bis aufs Blut. Thelma ist mit allen Hunden verträglich, lässt aber keinen in die Nähe ihres Sohnes, warum Aufenthalte im Rudel nur dann möglich sind, wenn die Tierschützer von Puri Refugio Louis und Thelma separieren. Warum Thelma so extrem auf ihren Sohn fixiert ist, kann man natürlich nur raten, aber da Louis allein mit seiner Mutter unterwegs war, stellt sich schon die Frage, was aus dem Rest des Wurfes wurde und ob Thelma große Verluste erleben musste. Thelma ist eine dreieinhalb Jahre alte Mastix-Mix-Dame. Wenn Louis nicht in der Nähe ist, kommt Thelma im großen Rudel bestens zurecht und hat auch viele Hundefreunde. Die souveräne und kräftige Hündin mag die Tierschützer, hat keinerlei Probleme mit Körperkontakt und fordert auch gerne Bauchmassagen und Streicheleinheiten. Obwohl Thelma kein kleiner leichter Hund ist, ist sie gut zu führen und zeigt sich auch an der Leine sehr umgänglich und rücksichtsvoll. Thelma ist eine perfekte Freundin für Menschen, die ein echtes Gegenüber suchen. Unsere Vorzeigemama ist ruhig und überlegt, wie es sich für einen Herdenschutzhund eben gebührt. Da Thelma rassetypisch wachsam ist und es als ihre naturgegebene Aufgabe betrachtet, ihr Heim zu schützen, wäre es toll, wenn ihr neuer Wirkungskreis einen gesicherten Garten umfassen würde, in dem Thelma werbewirksam und höchst dekorativ den Security-Dienst übernehmen kann. Aber Thelma liebt auch lange Spaziergänge, in deren Rahmen man Freunde treffen, Nachbarn umgarnen und die Welt entdecken kann. Wir wissen, dass viele Menschen von unseren großen Hunden begeistert sind, aber wir bitten alle, die ernsthaft darüber nachdenken, einem unserer HSH-Kuschelbärchen eine Chance zu geben, sich mit der Rasse auseinanderzusetzen (wobei wir auch gern behilflich sind). Aus eigener Erfahrung kann ich nur sagen, dass es das größte Geschenk ist, das Herz eines dieser freundlichen Giganten zu erobern, eine tiefere Beziehung wird man selten zu einem Tier eingehen können. Doch wenn man einen Hund sucht, der apportiert, durch Reifen springt und auf ein „Sitz“ zusammenklappt, sollte man sich doch besser einen anderen Gefährten suchen. Ein Herdenschutzhund, das bedeutet, einen Schatten zu haben, der in zärtlicher Zuneigung immer Ihre Nähe sucht, der Sie niemals im Stich lassen wird, der seine Zunge perfekt zusammenrollen kann und Sie Ihnen ohne große Umstände ins Ohr stecken wird, sobald er merkt, dass Sie traurig sind, der bereit ist, Ihre Kinder mit seinem Leben verteidigen wird und gleichzeitig das großartigste Kuschelkissen für den Nachwuchs ist… Meine HSH-Prinzessin sitzt neben mir und schaut mich erwartungsvoll an, als wolle sie sagen, dass ich hoffentlich ein schönes Bild von Thelma gezeichnet habe und sie sehr gespannt ist, wo Thelma ihr Abenteuer „Familienhund“ beginnen wird. Das bin ich auch und wir würden uns freuen, ihre Geschichte weiter verfolgen zu dürfen!
