Zeus is a striking 4 and a half year old male looking for a new home through no fault of his own, as his family’s circumstances have changed and they no longer have the time he deserves. This handsome boy has a calm, steady nature and a wonderfully independent streak. True to his Akita heritage, Zeus can be a little aloof at first and may take 20 to 30 minutes to warm up to new people, but once he does, he shows his gentle and well mannered side. He takes treats softly, enjoys being handled, and is happy with grooming, including regular nail clipping. While he appreciates affection, he is not overly demanding and is quite content in his own space. Zeus has a great foundation of training. He knows sit, down, stay, and even offers a polite paw. On walks, he can pull a little at the start, but settles nicely and prefers to stay close to his people. Out and about, Zeus does have a noticeable prey drive. Foxes and squirrels, prevalent in his environment can be very exciting for him, so his new family will need to stay aware and manage this appropriately. He can also be selective with other dogs, particularly larger or more confident ones, as he may stare or fixate, which can be misunderstood. With the right guidance, training and advocacy for him on walks, this is manageable. At home, Zeus is a laid back companion who enjoys having the choice to spend time outdoors. He currently has access to a garden kennel with the door to the house open and often chooses to relax outside. He is not a high energy or overly demanding dog, making him well suited to a calm, structured environment. Zeus would need to be the only pet in the home, with no cats. He can live with children aged 12 and over who understand giving him space. He has grown up around children and is known to be protective and deeply bonded with his family but prefers a quieter environment and may find very noisy or high energy children overwhelming. One thing to note is that Zeus is very frightened of fireworks, so his new family should be prepared to support him during loud events. Zeus is a beautiful, dignified dog with a calm presence and a loyal heart. He is looking for an understanding home that appreciates his independent nature and will give him the time and space he needs to truly settle and thrive.
