Adopt Ace

Nieznane · Szczęszyk · 18 miesiące

Ace has come to us from a difficult background as we were unable to establish his age or medical history as it didn't seem to correlate with what we'd been told. We'd been told originally he was only 6 months old, but when he arrived it was obvious he was much older. He is missing 2 toes from his left front foot that we'd not been informed about, and upon enquiring, we've struggled to find any vet history for the amputation. Apparently he cut them to the bone on a walk in December and they had to be amputated. He was very underweight and has passed an awful lot of worms since he arrived and has put on a decent amount of weight after having 3 meals a day. He had been quite "nippy" with the kennels staff, but after being kept in our isolation kennel for some weeks, he seems to have calmed down and is happy with his routine now. He enjoys running around in our paddock with a ball in his mouth, squeaking it, but it's not "fetch" as he has no recall - I'm working on it, with bribery but he can be very stubborn. He has now been vaccinated and neutered, but wasn't happy about needles at the vets and very much needed a muzzle and would advise he wears one with any future vet trips. He's around 27 ins to the shoulder and weighs around 28 kg. He seems to prefer women to men. I wouldn't say he's dog friendly but he'll tolerate them at a distance unless they're in his face, so on walks I would recommend he's muzzled in case of redirected aggression. He's walked on a harness and a lead on his collar for better control here. Because of the missing toes on his foot and subsequent adjustment of how he bears weight on that foot, I don't think he'll cope with long walks on hard surfaces, but he's really happy having short run arounds in a secure place with a soft surface. He may develop arthritis in the joints of his left leg as he gets older because of the strain. He's NOT cat friendly and I wouldn't place him in a home with children. I was told he had a food guarding issue, but I've not seen any sign of it here - but it's best to be aware if it. I can't say if he's house trained as he's only been kennelled here. Ace is now with us at LL HQ in West Yorkshire. To find out more about him or to offer him a home, please fill in our pre-adoption questionnaire :
