Marnie was out in the field when she saw one of our volunteers doing rogaining and decided to follow her. When we arrived at the animal shelter, we noticed her round belly, and the veterinarian confirmed she was carrying five podenquitos inside. She gave birth at the animal shelter and soon moved to foster care. Three of the five puppies were adopted, but the last two were not. After so much time together, and considering that one of them is much more timid, we decided we couldn't separate them, as the timid one would likely end up alone and condemned to loneliness. After waiting for a while, no one offered to adopt them together. And their mom, Marnie, had to educate them at home and train them to be well-behaved. Now we can't separate the family unit. We know it's not easy to adopt a whole family, but that's because people don't realize how easy it is to adopt a whole family. Paradoxical, right? They love each other very much and get along well.
