5.4.2026 Champ arrived in Finland for foster care a couple of days ago. He has obviously been very tired from the journey. Nevertheless, he has approached the new environment quite casually. Treats taste good from the hand and he has already been through the gate as a playful dog. Background and story Since while moving around Romania, one almost daily encounters homeless dogs, there would be constantly new arrivals at the shelter kennel. Due to limited resources, animal protectors have to think every day who needs help the most. Usually, those dogs who have the worst chances to survive on the streets get help: sick, injured or old dogs and puppies. In May 2021, Delia, who maintained the Care for Dogs yard, got a call about a small puppy that was wandering the streets with its mother. Knowing that the small puppy would not survive long among the dangers, Delia went to fetch the puppy to safety at her yard. Fortunately, the mother and probably this brother were also caught and thus Daisy and Champ ended up in the shelter kennel. Daisy and Champ have always been shy and therefore the opportunities for their own homes have diminished over the years. Especially unfamiliar people worry them and although the pair often wait eagerly by the fence, they quickly disappear into hiding when visitors come to the yard. However, over the years, they have gradually become more confident and now they start to look at people after a short hesitation. Both are very fond of treats and scratches and eagerly spin around even towards strangers if there are treats available. With familiar people, they are much more confident. Champ easily rolls over with familiar people to get tummy rubs and Daisy has also dared to be rubbed by familiar people. Handling is still exciting for both. However, the presence of people clearly interests them a lot and both are clearly excited to play with people.

4.5.2026Champ saapui Suomeen kotihoitoon pari päivää sitten. Hän on ymmärrettävästi ollut matkasta kovin väsynyt. Tästä huolimatta hän on suhtautunut uuteen ympäristöön melko rennosti. Herkut maistuvat kädestä ja hän on käynyt jo rapsuteltavana portin läpi.Tausta ja tarinaKoska Romaniassa liikkuessa törmää lähes päivittäin kodittomiin koiriin, olisi tarhalle tulijoita jatkuvasti. Rajallisista resursseista johtuen eläinsuojelijat joutuvat päivittäin pohtimaan, kuka apua tarvitsee eniten. Yleensä apua saavat ne koirat, joilla on kaikkein huonoimmat mahdollisuudet selvitä kaduilla: sairaat, loukkaantuneet tai vanhat koirat ja pennut. Toukokuussa 2021 Care for Dogsin tarhaa ylläpitävä Delia sai soiton pienestä pentukoirasta, joka seikkaili emonsa kanssa kaduilla. Tietäen ettei pieni pentu selviäisi vaarojen keskellä kauaa Delia lähti hakemaan pentua turvaan tarhalleen. Onnekkaasti myös emo ja todennäköisesti tämän veli saatiin kiinni ja niinpä Daisy ja Champ päätyivät tarhalle. Daisy ja Champ ovat alusta asti olleet ujoja ja niinpä mahdollisuudet omiin koteihin ovat huvenneet vuosien varrella. Erityisesti vieraat ihmiset jännittävät heitä ja vaikka kaksikko odottaa usein aidalla innoissaan, häviävät he pian piiloon kun vieraita tulee aitaukseen. Vuosien mittaan he ovat kuitenkin tasaisesti reipastuneet ja nykyään he tulevat ihmettelemään ihmisiä jo pienen mietintätauon jälkeen. Molemmat ovat kovin persoja herkuille ja kehuille ja jäävät hyvin innokkaasti pyörimään vieraankin lähelle, jos tarjolla on lahjuksia. Tuttujen ihmisten kanssa he ovat huomattavasti reippaampia. Champ heittäytyy tuttujen kanssa herkästi selälleen saadakseen maharapsutuksia ja Daisykin on uskaltaunut tuttujen rapsuteltavaksi. Käsittely on molempien mielestä edelleen jännittävää. Ihmisten seura kuitenkin selvästi kiinnostaa heitä paljon ja molemmat ovat selvästi innoissaan saadessaan puuhailla ihmisten kanssa.
